Wildcats Open Season with 183-117 Win Over Vermont

DURHAM, N.H. - The Wildcats won 11 of the 16 events as the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team defeated America East opponent Vermont, 183-117, in the season opener on Friday at Swasey Pool. The Wildcats start the season 1-0 (1-0 America East), while the Catamounts fall to 2-3 (0-1 America East).
Over 140 alumni, along with family, friends, and faculty, filled Swasey Pool beyond seating capacity for the home opener against UVM, the defending conference champions. The event was part of the largest swim and dive reunion, celebrating over 30 years of excellence under head coach Josh Willman. Alumni from the classes of '96 through '23 were in attendance, including UNH Hall of Famers like Denise Leckenby, Lauren McCandless, Ian Smith, and other program record holders.

- Freshman Amelia Labno (Rosemount, Minn.) had an outstanding debut, winning two events: the 100 back (58.26) and 200 back (2:05.37).
- Fellow freshman Lydia Hart (Cornwall, ON, Canada) captured first place in the 1000 free (10:21.13) and the 500 free (5:07.41) in her first collegiate races.
- Junior Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) excelled in the sprint events, winning the 50 free (23.70) and the 100 free (51.46).
- Sophomore Emily Wright (Ventura, Calif.) dominated the breaststroke, taking first place in both the 100 breast (1:05.80) and the 200 breast (2:22.00).
- The 200 medley relay team of graduate Sydney Stockwell (Hopkinton, N.H.), Wright, senior captain Chiara Maria Pradissitto (Milan, Italy), and Mahoney started the meet with a first-place finish (1:46.85).
- Sophomore Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.) claimed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.66.
- Sophomore Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) took home first in the one-meter dive with a score of 255.35.
