OTTAWA – Former University of New Hampshire men's soccer All-American Moise Bombito has been named to the Canadian Men's National Team roster for the first time in his career. The team is preparing to take on Panama in the semifinals of the Concacaf Nations League Finals on Thursday, June 15 at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the final on Sunday, June 18 against the winner of the semifinal match between Mexico and the United States.
"Moise's hard work and dedication have paid off again as he receives a well-deserved call-up to the national team, another testament to his exceptional talent," said UNH head coach Marc Hubbard. "He is the first player to achieve this in my coaching career so we are very proud of him. We wish him all the best in this new journey and look forward to continuing to support him from New Hampshire."
Bombito was drafted in the first round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids as the third overall pick. He was the first player in program history to be picked in the first round. Bombito has played in five games with the Rapids with two starts.
Bombito was the first Wildcat to be named a member of the MLS Generation adidas class which is a joint program between MLS and adidas that sees a handful of top collegiate underclassmen and youth national team players signed by MLS to Generation adidas contracts and made available in the SuperDraft.
The defender had an outstanding 2022 season for the Wildcats as he was named a second team All-American and was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Bombito won the 2022 America East and ECAC Defender of the Year Awards and earned first team All-America East and ECAC accolades. He tied for third on the team with four goals and tied for second with two game winners. Prior to competing for the Wildcats, he earned 2021 All-America accolades at Iowa Western Community College.
UNH went 15-4-1 (.775) overall in the 2022 season and was ranked No. 21 in the final United Soccer Coaches National Poll. UNH won its fourth America East Tournament championship and made its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth straight. The Wildcats defeated Seton Hall, 2-1, in the first round at Wildcat Stadium and then tied No. 10 seed Florida International, 2-2, in the second round but lost the 12 round-shootout 10-9.
The Wildcats posted 11 shutouts and outscored the opposition, 38-12. UNH's .590 team goals against average was ranked third in the nation and its .550 shutout percentage was sixth.
