Women's Soccer Adds Eight Freshmen to 2023 Roster

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer head coach, Steve Welham, announced the addition of eight first year players to the upcoming Fall 2023 roster.
The Wildcats have added forwards Greta Caulton, Elizabeth Finn, Summer Haarala, Maggie Moore, Annie Renz, Julianna Vano, and goalkeepers Lilly Vermilya and Sonja Zeepvat.
"We are so excited to bring this new group of wonderful and talented players to Durham. Each individual brings something special and unique to our program and we could not be happier to officially welcome them to our Wildcat family," said Welham.
UNH WOMEN'S SOCCER 2023 RECRUITING CLASS
Greta Caulton

Caulton, a forward from Amherst, New Hampshire comes to UNH after four years of accomplishments with her high school team. Prior to starting high school, Caulton trained with Malaga FC in Spain and was a Hampshire United Soccer Club NHSA State Champion. She was both the ODP New Hampshire state player of the year and Aztecs NPL player of the year her freshman and sophomore year. Her sophomore year, she was named Division 2 New Hampshire Second Team All-State, leading into Caulton becoming a division 2 NH All State player. In her junior year, Caulton also participated in the ODP National Training Camp and was on the FC Stars 2005 White ECNL team that finished as the Showcase B National Finalist. Caulton started her senior year as Souhegan High School Captain and played with FC Stars 2005 White ECNL.
"Very quick, dynamic, industrious, technical and someone who can score important goals. These are the attributes that jump out when you watch Greta play. We are very excited about her future here at UNH," said Welham.
Elizabeth Finn

Finn joins the Wildcats from Scituate, Massachusetts. The forward and midfielder previously played at Worcester Academy. She committed to New Hampshire as an undeclared major yet has interest in both the Nursing and Exercise Science program. Elizabeth has been a varsity player since 8th grade, while also competing in swimming and basketball at her high school. Her athletic accomplishments include Elected Captain, High School All American Nominee, NEPSAC Class A Junior All Star, Boston Globe All Scholastic 3x, Boston Herald All Star, Massachusetts All State, Patriot Ledger All Star, Conference leader in points, NEPSAC Class A All Star, Worcester Academy Single Season Scoring Record, 2017 and 2018 ECNL National Finalists. Elizabeth has also been impressive in the classroom as she was both a Recipient of High Honors for all semesters and a Worcester Academy Ambassador. She played club soccer for both FC Stars and NEFC.
"Finn is an explosive and extremely technical player who understands the game very well and has the ability to turn a match with her individual play and goal scoring prowess. We look forward to her impacting our team," said Welham.
Summer Haarala

Haarala is from Framingham, Massachusetts and joins the Wildcats as a forward after playing four years of varsity soccer. She has played for the US Youth Futsal Team twice; 2018 Portugal and 2019 Barcelona. She played for New England Futbol Club (NEFC) and went to the DPL National Playoffs twice; California 2021 and Texas 2022. Haarala was named a captain her senior year, leading them to the Bay State Conference Playoffs. She was named a Bay State League All Star and was also named to the Eastern Mass All-Star 2nd Team.
"Summer is a hardworking, dynamic, and athletic player. She also has versatility on the field that will enable her to play in more than one position. We welcome her to Wildcat Country and look forward to her future accomplishments," said Welham.
Maggie Moore

Moore, a forward, is joining the team from Newmarket, New Hampshire majoring in Exercise Science. Moore made a name for herself in soccer starting as a freshman by going to the US development academy for SUSC from 2018-2020. She also was named Seacoast United player of the week three times. During her sophomore year, Moore was named the Rookie of the Year for Newmarket. In her junior year, her team was undefeated and State Champions. Moore served as team captain in her senior year.
"Maggie is a strong physical presence on the field and can play either as a target forward or central defender. We look forward to her contributions on and off the field here at UNH and it's great to see another 'Granite Stater' on our team," said Welham.
Annie Renz

Renz joins the Wildcats from Milton, Massachusetts majoring in English: Journalism. At Milton Academy, Renz was the only freshman to start every game on the varsity team. Renz was also a standout player for the Scorpions ECNL National Team. She was also the top goal scorer at her school with 12 goals and 5 assists. She won First Team All- ISL, the All-State Team for Massachusetts, the Patriot Ledger 2nd Team, was voted MVP by her teammates at Milton Academy, and was the New England Soccer Journal April 2022 Standout. Her Senior year was just as impressive with being the captain of the soccer team and the track and field team. She was on the Pre-season High School All American Girls Watch list and was the pre-season Best 11 All-ISL. Renz started every game in her four years at Milton Academy and was the leading scorer each season.
"We felt a strong connection with Annie from Day 1. She has been too numerous UNH camps and clinics over the years and we are so happy she has made UNH her home. Annie has the ability to beat you 1v1 with her pace and technical ability and she has a definite nose for the goal," said Welham.
Julianna Vano

Vano is a native of Yorktown Heights, New York where she played varsity soccer at Yorktown High School. During her time there she was an all-league honorable mention her freshman and sophomore years. This was followed by being an all-league and an all-section honoree her junior and senior years. Her freshman year of high school she was named the winner of the Delta Scholarship (Positive Athlete Scholarship) after scoring 10 goals for her team. Her sophomore year, Vano scored 13 goals. Junior year she scored 17 and was nominated for LOHUD Player of the Week. Vano was named captain of her senior year team, scoring 22 goals in the season. She was nominated two more times for LOHUD Player of the Week and was a top 10 scorer of all-section 1. Vano will step in as a forward for the Wildcats.
"Jules is a tenacious and hardworking striker. She has the ability to play back to goal, can combine, she can turn you and can hit the cover off the ball. She will be very a dangerous player in and around the box. Very happy she's on our team and a Wildcat," said Welham.
Lilly Vermilya

Vermilya, a goalkeeper, joins the Wildcats from Framingham High School where she was the varsity starting goalie all four years. Before high school, her FC Stars team went completely undefeated in 2018. In her junior year, Vermilya was selected as an ECNL New England All Conference first team selection. She was also an ECNL National finalist. In Vermilya's senior year, she was her team MVP, and was selected as All Conference First Team. During her time as varsity goalkeeper, Vermilya was also on the honor roll for all four years and was in the top 20-25% in her class rank.
"Lilly is a fearless and imposing goalkeeper with a big upside. She has significant potential, and we are excited to see her continue to develop and take her game to the next level here at UNH. We welcome Lilly to Wildcat Country," said Welham.
Sonja Zeepvat

Zeepvat joins the Wildcats from Mendham, N.J. as a goalkeeper. Zeepvat was a four-year starter on varsity for West Morris Mendham High School. During her sophomore year she was an Honorable Mention All-County 2021 selection (Morris County Girls Soccer Coaches Association) and Second Team All-Conference in 2020 (Northwest Jersey Athletic League). In Zeepvat's junior year, she was All-State & 1st Team All-Conference (2021 Northwest Jersey Athletic League) and was nominated for NJ Women's Soccer Best Player of the Year in 2021. She received the NJGSCA Top "20" North 2 Region Award and the NJGSCA Sectional Recognition Award. Senior year she was team captain for her high school team. She was a 2022 Player of the Year Candidate for the North Jersey Athletic League (NJAC) and MVP Candidate in Group 3 Girls Conference & State Soccer Playoffs. Zeepvat also tallied a career high 186 saves her senior year.
"Sonja is an extremely talented and athletic goalkeeper. She has the ability to make top saves and has great range. She can cover large areas of the goal with her presence and size, and we look forward to her career and we welcome her to UNH," said Welham.
The Wildcats look to capitalize on their historic 2022 season capped off by the second America East Championship in program history and the program's second berth in the NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats have added forwards Greta Caulton, Elizabeth Finn, Summer Haarala, Maggie Moore, Annie Renz, Julianna Vano, and goalkeepers Lilly Vermilya and Sonja Zeepvat.
