O'Hern Cruises to First-Place Finish in 1500m Run at UMass Pre-Conference Meet

AMHERST, Mass. – Senior Aidan O'Hern (Concord, N.H.) won the 1500m run with a new personal best time Friday afternoon as the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed at UMass in their Pre-Conference Meet at the UMass Track and Field Complex.

FIELD EVENTS
Freshman Max LaPointe (Amesbury, Mass.) finished fifth in the discus throw with a throw of 149' 1" (45.04m). Freshman Caden Zalenski (Milford, N.H.) placed ninth with a distance of 133' 4" (40.63m).
Freshman Liam McGovern (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 188' 4" (57.41m) to set a new personal best. Senior Andrew Fleming (Acton, Mass.) placed fourth with a distance of 181' 11" (55.44m) on his throw. Sophomore Max Rome (North Kingston, R.I.) finished in eighth place, reaching a distance of 171' 3" (52.20m), also setting a personal best in the event.
Zalenski had the best finish for the Wildcats in the shot put, placing seventh with a throw of 48' 10.5" (14.90m). LaPointe came in tenth place with a toss of 45' 1" (13.74m).
Junior Andrew Kelly (Portsmouth, N.H.) finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 43' 3.75" (13.20m). Kelly also had a ninth-place finish in the long jump, reaching a distance of 20' 2.5" (6.16m).
Freshman Jayson Blaisdell (Barrington, N.H.) came in fifth place in the javelin throw for his best finish as a first-year competitor, reaching a mark of 155' 6" (47.39m).
Freshman Kyran Maher (Andover, Mass.) came in fourth place in the pole vault with a height of 13' 5.5" (4.10m), setting a new personal best.
TRACK EVENTS
Freshman Michael Mulcahy set a new personal best time in the 100m dash, finishing the race in 11.28 seconds to come in seventh place.
In the 200m dash, freshman Nathan Fletcher (Portsmouth, N.H.) finished in fifth place with a time of 22.44 seconds which was a new personal best for the first year runner.
Junior Francesco Maldari (Portsmouth, N.H.) came in eighth place in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 53.51 seconds. Senior Alexander Cermak (Manchester, N.H.) finished in ninth place with a time of 56.67 seconds.
Sophomore Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) notched a second-place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:52.91 while Senior William Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.) came in third, finishing in 1:54.26. Senior Kenney McElroy (West Linn. Ore.) crossed the finish line soon after for a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:56.22.
O'Hern set a new personal best and won the 1500m run with a time of 3:50.26. Sophomore Kevin Finn (Kennebunk, Maine) came in fifth place in the event with a time of 3:54.62 which was also a new personal best.
The four-man team of Mulcahy, Street, junior Adrian Sutton (Rochester, N.H.), and Fletcher notched a third-place finish in the 4x100m relay race with a time of 43.12 seconds.
In the 4x400m relay race, the squad of Curran, McElroy, Shea, and freshman Samuel Hilts (Concord, N.H.) came in third place, finishing in 3:31.42.

The Wildcats return to action at the UAlbany Track and Field Complex for the America East Outdoor Championships beginning on Saturday, May 6 with the competitions concluding on Sunday, May 7.
