Jasmine Lyons Earns First Team All-America Honors with Second Place Finish at NCAAs

Wildcats move up to seventh place in team standings.
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Junior Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) was outstanding as she placed second in the 5K freestyle to earn First Team All-America honors on Thursday at Mt. Van Hoevenberg to lead the University of New Hampshire ski team on the second day of the NCAA Championships. UNH moved up four spots to seventh overall in the standings out of 22 teams with 122 points.
This is the third career All-America accolade for Lyons. Last season she was a First Team All-American for placing third in the 15K freestyle and was on the second team for her eighth-place finish in the 5K classic.

The women's Nordic team earned a total of 54 points to place fourth in the 5K freestyle.
Lyons recorded a time of 12:59.2 to tally 37 points for the team. Novie McCabe of Utah won the championship with a time of 12:46.3. Lyons and McCabe were the only two athletes to post a time under 13 minutes.
Senior Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) secured 15 points for the Wildcats as she was 16th (13:43.5) and junior Lea Stabaek Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) picked up two points for UNH at 29th (14:06.2).
Senior Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.) earned 19 points for the Wildcats for placing 12th in the 10K freestyle with a time of 24:08.0. UNH placed 10th in the team competition with the 19 points.
UP NEXT:

The men's slalom first run is at 9 a.m. with the second run at noon, while the women's first run is at 10:30 a.m. with the second run at 1 p.m. Freshman Hedda Martelleur (Uppsala, Sweden), senior Lisa Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden), sophomore Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia), freshman Isac Hedstrom (Are, Sweden), sophomore Mons Langaard (Oslo, Norway) and junior Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) will be competing for the Wildcats.
