Isac Hedstrom Leads Wildcats on First Day of NCAA Championships

Hedstrom places 15th in the giant slalom.
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Freshman Isac Hedstrom (Are, Sweden) led the Wildcats with a 15th place finish in the giant slalom on Wednesday at Whiteface Mountain to lead the University of New Hampshire ski team on the first day of the NCAA Championships. UNH is 11th overall out of 22 teams with 49 points.

The men's Alpine team placed ninth in the giant slalom with 27 points. Hedstrom posted a combined time of 2:08.66 for 15th, recording 16 team points. He had an outstanding second run as his time of 1:02.72 was the fourth fastest. Sophomore Mons Langaard (Oslo, Norway) was 25th (2:10.35) posting six points, while junior Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) was 26th (2:10.43) receiving five points.

The women's Alpine team placed 13th in the giant slalom totaling 22 points. Freshman Hedda Martelleur (Uppsala, Sweden) led the Wildcats at 20th with a combined time of 2:17.22 earning 11 points for the team. Graduate student Lisa Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) placed 23rd (2:18.02) for the Wildcats picking up eight points, while sophomore Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia) was 28th (2:19.21) posting three points.

- The Wildcats continue action at the NCAA Championships with the start of the Nordic competition on Thursday, March 9 at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. Senior Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.) will compete in the 10K skate at 10 a.m., while senior Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.), junior Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) and junior Lea Stabaek Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) will compete in the 5K skate at noon.
