Alpine Skiers Compete at NCAA Qualifier

Freshmen Hedda Martelleur and Isac Hedstrom lead Wildcats
WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Freshmen Hedda Martelleur (Uppsala, Sweden) and Isac Hedstrom (Are, Sweden) both finished in 13th place to highlight the University of New Hampshire ski team's alpine results in Thursday's NCAA giant slalom qualifier at Whiteface Mountain.
RESULTS
Martelleur finished in 13th place in the women's giant slalom with a two-run time of 2:17.95 to earn 20 NCAA points. Grad student Lisa Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) placed 14th in 2:17.99 – only .04-of-a-second behind Martelleur – for 18 NCAA points.
Senior Emma Kearing (Carrabasset Valley, Maine) was the other Wildcat who earned NCAA qualifying points in the women's giant slalom by placing in the top 30 of the 72 competitors. Kearing earned 14 NCAA points with her 17th-place time of 2:18.06.
The men's giant slalom was limited to a single run because of foggy conditions. Hedsrom raced to 13th place in 1:03.91 for 20 NCAA points. Senior Marius Solbakken (Bekkestua, Norway) crossed the finish line in 1:04.38 for 16th place and 15 points.
Junior Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) and grad student Jordan Phillips (Montreal, Quebec) also earned NCAA qualifying points by placing inside the top 30 of 76 skiers. Nersnaes placed 18th in 1:04.47 for 13 points, and Phillips took five points with a 26th place-finish of 1:05.01.
New Hampshire returns to action Feb. 24-25 at the EISA Championships/NCAA East Regionals at the St. Lawrence Carnival. The Nordic teams compete at Mt. Van Hoevenberg while the alpine teams return to Whiteface Mountain.
