Rickwood Scores Goal in Senior Day Loss to #11 Vermont

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's hockey team recorded a 21-14 shot advantage but was defeated 3-1 by 11th-ranked University of Vermont in Saturday afternoon's regular-season finale at the Whittemore Center.
Grad student defenseman Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) scored with 2:55 remaining in regulation to lift UNH within 3-1. The Wildcats recorded a 2-0 shot advantage the rest of the way – they played with an empty net for the final 2:28 – but could not reduce the two-goal deficit.
Graduate student goaltender and captain Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) was credited with 11 saves.
UVM was led by Natalie Mlynkova (two goals) and Theresa Schafzahl(two assists). Evelyne Blais-Savoie scored the Catamounts' other goal. Jessie McPherson made 20 saves.
UNH ends the regular season at 11-20-3 overall and 9-15-3 in Hockey East. Vermont improves to 21-10-3, 16-8-3.

FIRST PERIOD
- UVM recorded a 5-3 shot advantage in the scoreless opening 20 minutes.
- The Wildcats went on the only power play of the game at 17:14 but McPherson stopped the only shot she faced to keep the game tied at zero.
SECOND PERIOD
- UVM outscored New Hampshire 2-0 in the second period despite the home team's 12-6 shot advantage.
- Blais-Savoie scored off a rebound to give Vermont a 1-0 lead at 2:08 and Mlynkova netted her first goal of the game to extend the advantage to 2-0 at 10:40.
THIRD PERIOD
- New Hampshire once again doubled up the Catamounts in shots, 6-3, in the final frame.
- Corinne McCool's shot ricocheted off the right post at 14:18 and seconds later, she fired another shot from the right side that clanged off the apron just wide of the near post. The puck cycled to Mlynkova in the left circle and she ripped a shot into the upper-left corner to give UVM a 3-0 lead at 14:31.
- Rickwood's blast from the right point sailed under the crossbar to lift the Wildcats within 3-1 at 17:05. Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario), with the pass from the high slot, was credited with the assist.
- UNH pulled Boutilier in favor of an extra skater with 2:28 remaining.
- The Wildcats sustained pressure for the final 1:30 of the game, but the Catamounts blocked four shot attempts and McPherson stopped the other two to preserve the win.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH had a 21-14 shot advantage and 22-13 edge in the faceoff circle.
- The Wildcats went 0-for-1 on the power play and were not whistled for a penalty.
- UVM was credited with 20 blocks while New Hampshire blocked eight shots.

- Rickwood extended her school record for games played to 163. She recorded a point both games of the weekend series vs. UVM to increase her career totals to 12 goals and 43 assists for 55 points.
- Brooks now leads the team with 27 points; she ranks second in both goals (10) and assists (17).
- Martin led all skaters with six faceoff wins and also had a game-high .750 faceoff winning percentage (6 of 8).
- Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario) were both credited with two blocks.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 37-17-8 lifetime record against Vermont that includes 22-5-2 at home.
- The teams skated to a 3-3 each of the previous two meetings this season (Feb. 10 and Feb. 17).
