12/9/2023 10:35:00 PM | Men's Track & Field
ORONO, Maine – Sophomore Yoofi Abaka-Amuah (Worcester, Mass.) posted victories in shotput and weight throw, and freshman Avery Cipcic (Suffield, Conn.) won the heptathlon in his collegiate debut to spark the UNH men's track and field team (127.50 points) to Saturday's season-open triumph against host Maine (83.50) and Husson College (28 points) at the New Balance Maine Field House.
Abaka-Amuah's winning shot put throw went for 17.43 meters, and his weight throw reached a distance of 18.72m.
"We are very proud of Yoofi's shotput performance and his incredible day," said Anna Magle-Haberek, UNH Track & Field Director. "We had a lot of personal records across the board, especially in the throwing events. Winning multiple events against a competitive Maine team is a great way to end the semester."
UNH's defeat of Maine comes as part of the Border Battle, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.
