Guilfoil's Two Wins, NCAA 'B' Cut Time, Highlight Weekend at Bruno Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Ella Guilfoil (Fairport, N.Y.) won two individual events and was runner-up in another to highlight the University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team's results at the Bruno Invitational, which was held Nov. 17-19 at Brown University's Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
After swimming a 400-yard individual medley prelim time of 4 minutes, 22.86 seconds on Saturday, Guilfoil out-touched Brown's Sumner Chmielewski at the wall for a winning and NCAA 'B' cut time of 4:15.33 in the finals; that winning time shaved 9.1 seconds off her previous best time and is the fourth-fastest mark in program history. Chmielewski was .31-of-a-second slower.
That completed the IM sweep for Guilfoil, who won the 200 IM on Friday with a personal-best time of 2:00.85 that ranks fifth best in program history. She established another personal best in the 200 backstroke Sunday with a second-place time of 1:58.77, which is also fourth on UNH's all-time leaderboard.
Guilfoil was also part of UNH's third-place finish in both the 200 free and 800 free relays, as well as fourth place in the 400 free relay, fifth place in the 400 medley relay and sixth place in the 200 medley relay.
Including the relays, Guilfoil helped the Wildcats earn 208 points.
UNH, which did not have any divers compete, compiled 426 points to finish fourth in the six-team event. Brown led the way with 1,394.5 points and was followed by Georgetown University (831.5 points), Colgate University (526), UNH, Binghamton University (419) and Rider University (168).
This was the first invitational meet of the season for UNH, which has a 3-0 dual meet record with wins against the University of Vermont, Central Connecticut State University and Siena College.

FRIDAY RECAP
- Guilfoil recorded the fastest preliminary time of 24 swimmers in Friday's 200 IM (2:01.39) and raced to first place in the final with a time of 2:00.85.
- Classmate Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) was the top 'Cat in the 50 free. She swam the fifth fastest prelim time (23.46 seconds) and placed fifth in the finals with an improved mark of 23.40.
- Senior Abby McKinney (Westfield, N.J.) placed 11th overall in the 50 free by touching the wall in 23.86 seconds in the 'B' final.
- Carolyn Nelson (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was the seventh fastest swimmer in the 500 free 'A' final to earn 12 points with a personal-best time of 4:58.21.
- The 200 free relay of Mahoney, Guilfoil, McKinney and Annie Jencova (Waikanae, New Zealand) finished third in 1:44.74, which was .33 behind the second-place time.
- The 200 'B' free relay of Chiara Maria Pradissitto (Milan, Italy), Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.), Sarah Guerrette (Bow, N.H.) and Izzie Campion (Auckland, New Zealand) placed 11th in 1:40.10 to earn 12 team points.
- UNH's 'A' squad placed fifth in the 400 medley relay as the quartet of Guilfoil, Emily Wright (Ventura, Calif.), Pradissitto and Mahoney combined for a time of 3:48.71.
- The 400 medley 'B' relay of Kylie Boyle (Ashburn, Va.), Trinity Devanney (Gulf Breeze, Fla.), Megumi Komoto (Schaumburg, Ill.) and McKinney placed ninth in 3:54.24, which was slightly faster than their seed time.
SATURDAY RECAP
- Boyle was the seventh-fastest swimmer in the 100 backstroke by touching the wall in a personal-best 57.79 seconds.
- McKinney was UNH's top finisher in the 100 butterfly in ninth place overall with a time of 55.75. Mahon in 12th place (56.64) and Pradissitto in 14th (56.99) also earned points.
- Devanney recorded points with a 13th-place effort of 4:34.08 in the 400 IM. That time was a 7.1 second improvement from her preliminary time.
- A pair of Wildcats earned points in the 200 free. Nelson took 13th place in 1:53.55 and Wright finished 16th in 1:56.09.
- Wright also scored in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.70 for 12th place.
- UNH's top relay finish on Day 2 was the third-place effort of McKinney, Guilfoil, Nelson and Pradissitto in the 800 free. The quartet was timed in 7:29.06.
- The 800 free 'B' relay combination of Jencova, Mahoney, Wright and Jessica Briers (St. Louis, Mo.) placed ninth in 7:43.56.
- The quartet of Guilfoil, Wright, Pradissitto and Mahoney placed sixth in the 200 medley relay in 1:43.97.
- UNH's second entry of Boyle, Devanney, McKinney and Jencova had a time of 1:48.61 to finish in 10th place.
SUNDAY RECAP
- Guilfoil swam to second place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.77, which was .35 behind the winning mark. Her time in the finals was 2.25 seconds faster than the prelim.
- Campion also recorded points in the 200 back with an 11th-place finish at 2:03.42.
- Day 3 began with the 'Cats finishing 8-9 in the 1,650 free. Nelson placed eighth by completing the 33 laps in a personal-best 17:20.98. Hannah Devine (Hamilton, N.J.) was the next swimmer to touch the wall with a time of 17:22.75.
- Mahoney finished eighth in the 100 free in 51.12 seconds and McKinney placed 11th in 51.90.
- Wright was the top 'Cat and 10th overall in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.67. Guilfoil also swam in the event and took 14th place in 2:26.82.
- UNH had four swimmers earn points in the 200 fly 'B' final Mahon led the way in ninth place (2:04.36), followed by Boyle in 10th (2:04.48), Komoto in 15th (2:06.13) and McKinney in 16th (2:06.85).
- In the final race of the weekend, the Wildcats took fourth place in the 400 free relay as the quartet of Mahoney, McKinney, Pradissitto and Guilfoil combined for a time ot 3:26.48.
- UNH's 'B' team of Jencova, Campion, Devine and Nelson placed 11th in 3:36.14.
