Martell Shines as UNH Competes in Pair of Boston Meets This Weekend

BOSTON, MASS.- The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team traveled to Boston this weekend for a pair of meets with many of the athletes competing on Friday in the River Hawk Invitational at the TRACK at New Balance.
 
Junior Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) had an impressive showing the next day as she ran a blazing time of 2:04.53 in the 800m run at the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
 
RIVER HAWK INVITATIONAL (FRI. 1/27)
 
FIELD EVENTS
 
Freshman Makenna Lee (Northwood, N.H.) placed 11th and senior Danielle Heine (Waverly, Pa.) placed 13th in the pole vault with heights of 11' 0.25" for Lee and 10' 6.25" for Heine. Freshman Calli Ogurkis finished 20th with a mark of 10' 0.5".
 
Sophomore Olivia Chamberlain (Warnerville, N.Y.) competed in the long jump and reached a distance of 16' 11.25", good for 15th place out of 71 competitors.
 
In the shot put, freshman Opal Shinnlinger (Canaan, N.H.) had a toss of 38' 9.5" to come in 11th place with 55 other competitors among the field.
 
RUNNING EVENTS
 
Freshman Ava Graham came in 15th place out of 51 runners in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.65. Junior Emma York (Penacook, N.H.) finished close behind in 18th place, clocking in at 2:21.53 while senior Cailey Archer (Berthoud, Colo.) was 21st with a time of 2:22.01.
 
With 25 runners competing in the 1000m run, Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) placed 10th finishing with a time of 3:01.86. Junior Hannah Langstaff (Windham, Maine) finished 13th in the 1000m with a time of 3:03.05. Juniors Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) and Silvia Caddell (Salem, N.H.) crossed the finish line soon after with times of 3:08.21 and 3:09.12 to come in 15th and 17th place.
 
In the 5000m run, junior Annemarie Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) notched a top-10 finish with a time of 18:27.13, good for 9th place.
 
The Wildcats came in 11th place in the 4x400m relay, sporting a team of Ronan, Archer, sophomore Kaitlin Lennox (Hampton Falls, N.H.), and sophomore Autumn Agri (Stratham, N.H.). The squad finished the relay with a time of 4:09.36.
 
 
JOHN THOMAS TERRIER CLASSIC (SAT. 1/28)
Martell ran a blazing time of 2:04.53 in the 800m run, placing 6th overall and 2nd out of the collegiate competitors. There were 94 runners competing in the 800m run at the BU Track & Tennis Center on Saturday.
 
With over 100 runners competing in the 3000m run, the 'Cats had a trio of athletes place no lower than 42nd in the event. Sophomore Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.) paced the group with a time of 9:33.11 to finish 29th. Graduate students Kira Nolan (Richmond, Vt.) and Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) followed close behind with times of 9:39.82 and 9:42.82 with Nolan crossing the finish line in 37th place.

The 'Cats will be back at The TRACK at New Balance on Thursday and Friday (Feb. 1-2) for the New England Championships.

The Wildcats host UMass Lowell in a dual meet on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Paul Sweet Oval in a one-day competition.
