Schulz Helps 'Cats to 4th Place Finish in UNH Carnival

JACKSON, N.H. – Senior Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.) turned in his second Top 10 performance of the weekend to lead the University of New Hampshire ski team to a fourth-place finish in the UNH Carnival held at Jackson XC and Burke Mountain in Vermont.
Schulz raced to a ninth-place finish in the 20K classic with a time of 55 minutes, 25.5 seconds to earn 33 points and pace the men's Nordic team to a fourth-place result in that event at Jackson.
Overall, the Wildcats collected 682 points. Vermont won the carnival with 916 points, Middlebury was second at 782 and Dartmouth was third with 769.
Schulz placed second in the men's 5K race on Friday. On Saturday, he was one of three Wildcats in the top 16. Vermont won the classic race with 132 points, Middlebury had 117, Colby College 93 and UNH 86.
Freshman Isac Hedstrom (Are, Sweden) had UNH's best individual result on Saturday, tying for sixth place in the slalom at Burke Mountain. Hedstrom had a combined time of 1 minute 54.00 seconds for 37 points.
Junior Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) was 13th in 1:54.68 for 28 points and sophomore Mons Langaard (Oslo, Norway) was 28th place in 1:58.17 for 17 points.
In the women's slalom, the top Wildcat in 16th place was senior Emma Kearing (Carrabassett Valley, Maine) with a time of 2:06.14 for 26 points. Senior McKenna Wilson (Bristol, N.H.) finished 27th in 2:10.84 for 17 points.
Junior Lea Stabaek Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) joined Schulz with a pair of Top 10 results for the weekend. She was 10th in a time of 1:05.48.3 to earn 30 points in Saturday's classic race. She finished fifth in Friday's 5K freestyle event. Sophomore Beth Granstrom (Revelstoke, B.C.) was 17th in Saturday's classic race in 1:07.42.3 for 23 points and junior Georgianna Fischer (Bozeman, Mont.) was right behind in 18th in 1:07.48.1 for 22 points.
Besides Schulz, the top Wildcat performers in the classic race Saturday were sophomore Eli Gore (Madison, Wis.) in 13th-place in 55.54.00 for 28 points and sophomore Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) in 56:09.3 for 25 points.
