UNH Falls in OT Thriller Against UMBC, 62-57

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to UMBC, 62-57, after coming back in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gym.
Freshman guard Avery O'Connor (Dedham, Mass.) put up 18 points for the Wildcats. Senior center Brooke Kane (Derry, N.H.) collected eight rebounds.
The Wildcats' record falls to 5-13 (0-6 AE) and UMBC's improves to 8-10 (5-2 AE).

FIRST QUARTER:
- Freshman guard Breezie Williams (Canton, Ohio) opened the scoring for the Wildcats with a hard drive to the basket.
- UMBC went on an 11-0 run to break open their lead in the first quarter.
- Freshman guard Diana Eliasson (Stockholm, Sweden) and O'Connor both went 100% from the foul line, contributing to a team collective 100% in the second quarter.
- The 'Cats forced eight turnovers from the Retrievers, collecting six points off those turnovers.
- UNH had three blocks in the third quarter, each resulting in Wildcat points.
- The 'Cats outscored the Retrievers, 11-9 in the third quarter.
- Kane drained a clutch three with two minutes to go to bring them within ten with two minutes left in the game.
- O'Connor followed that up with a steal and another three to drop the Retrievers lead to six.
- O'Connor brought the game to one procession when she sank a three from the top of the key with 30 seconds remaining.
- To take a one-point lead with seconds remaining, O'Connor successfully made three free throws for the Wildcats.
- UMBC drained the first four points of overtime taking a quick 57-53 lead.
- Freshman forward Lucia Melero (Barcelona, Spain) and Williams put up points for the Wildcats in overtime.
- UNH outscored UMBC in both the third and fourth quarters; 11-9 and 24-14.
- O'Connor had nine points in the span of 45 seconds to give the Wildcats a one-point lead with just 11 seconds on the clock.
