Andrew Fleming Wins Silver on Day 1 of America East Championships

RESULTS
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Junior Andrew Fleming (Acton, Mass.) won a silver medal as the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed on Day 1 of the America East Championships at the University of Vermont. The Wildcats are in fifth place with 17 points.
Fleming placed second in the hammer throw with a distance of 171'9" earning All-Conference honors and eight team points. Senior Patrick Brogioli (Milford, Mass.) finished sixth giving the Wildcats three points with a throw of 167'11".
Senior John King Jr. (Derry, N.H.) placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 198'0" to earn the Wildcats four points, while freshman Thomas Mason (Nashua, N.H.) was seventh with his best throw of his rookie season at 198'8" securing UNH two points.
Senior Brian Genet (Merrimack, N.H.) is currently in third place in the decathlon with 3,199 points.
Three Wildcats qualified for the 800-meter finals. Junior Kenney McElroy (West Linn., Ore.) placed first in the prelims with a time of 1:52.76, while sophomore Zack Plaza (Auburn, N.H.) was second with a time of 1:52.93. Senior Spenser Sawyer (Windham, N.H.) was seventh with a career-best time of 1:54.45.
Freshman Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) qualified for the 1,500 meter finals by placing sixth in the prelims with a time of 3:56.03.
Senior Jack Kennefick (Walpole, Mass.) qualified for the finals of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.04 for a seventh-place finish.
The Wildcats will conclude action at the America East Championships on Sunday, May 8, at 9 a.m.
