LOWELL, Mass. -- Freshman Olivia Chamberlain (Warnerville, N.Y.) and junior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) earned a pair of first-place finishes at the George Davis Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell at Cushing Field Complex on Saturday.
Chamberlain set a new school record in the long jump with a mark of 18'8.75", breaking the previous record held by teammate Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) of 18'8 which she set on April 9 along with Emma Checovich (2018). Chamberlain also placed third in the triple jump with mark of 38'6, while freshman Autumn Agri (Stratham, N.H.) posted a mark of 36'8, which was good for fourth place in the event. Savannah Vartabedian (Wilbraham, Mass.) also placed third in the long jump, while Almasian notched a sixth place effort, as they both jumped over 18 feet in a strong event for the 'Cats.
Williams took home the gold in the hammer throw on Friday afternoon with a throw of 179 feet and also added a fifth place finish with a mark of 40 feet in the shot put for the Wildcats.
"The highlight of the day was Olivia Chamberlain with a very strong performance," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "Having five athletes in the long jump final was very impressive. Sarah Williams also had a great effort in the hammer throw yesterday."
Freshman Olivia Valianti (Mansfield, Mass.) finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 120 feet.
Danielle Heine (Waverly, Pa.) and Jordan Hoffman (North Chelmsford, Mass.) earned fourth and fifth place efforts in the pole vault with jumps of 11'5 and 11 feet.
UNH's 4x100 relay team made up of Almasian, Vartabedian, Natalie Fraser (Gilford, N.H.) and Mia Taranko (Saco, Maine) finished second with a time of 48.73.
