Moore, Danis, Nada Win Two Golds Apiece at SNHU Ed Daniels Classic

HOOKSETT, N.H. – Junior Briana Danis (Hooksett, N.H.) and sophomores Sarah Moore (Lisbon, Maine) and Mariam Nada (Portsmouth, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team each won two gold Saturday at the SNHU Ed Daniels Classic, which was held at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium.
As a team, the Wildcats won a total of five events – four individual and one relay.

Danis led a 1-2 UNH finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.26 meters (174-9) and sophomore Ruby Prentiss(Falmouth, Maine) was runner-up at 49.87m (163-7). Danis established her winning throw on her first attempt to top the standings of 15 competitors. Prentiss moved into second place on her second throw and bested that effort with a counting mark of 49.87m (163-7) in the fifth round.
Danis bested a field of 14 throwers to earn gold in the discus with a top effort of 46.77m (153-5). She threw a mark of 44.35m on her first attempt to lead the event from start to finish as no other thrower went above 40 meters. Danis recorded her best distance in round 2.
Moore led a 1-2 Wildcats finish in the long jump with a winning mark of 5.82 meters (19 feet-1.25 inches). JuniorAudrey Thornton (Reading, Mass.) was runner-up at 5.74m (18-10) and freshman Tayla Pelletier (Windham, Maine) took fourth place at 5.04m (16-6.5).
Moore led from start to finish following her first attempt of 5.72m. She bested that mark – and 27 other competitors – with her top effort of 5.82 in the third round. Thornton also held second place through six rounds and she recorded her top leap on her last attempt. Pelletier had a distance of 5.04m each of her first two attempts.
Moore, Nada and Thornton combined with Eva Roberts (Derry, N.H.) to win the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.10 seconds.
In the 100m final, Nada inched into the lead midway through the straightaway and fended off two runners to cross the finish line with a winning time of 12.01 seconds -- .05 ahead of the runner-up. Moore finished third in 12.10. Nada and Moore advanced out of the 43 runners in the 100m preliminaries by winning their respective heats in times of 12.27 and 12.42.
Sophomore Ayva Mullen (Webster, N.H.) finished in second place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.65m (34-11.25). After sitting in third place through two rounds, Mullen climbed into second place with her top effort on her fifth attempt.
Freshman Payton Goulding (Cumberland, R.I.) and Prentiss finished 3-4 in the shot put. Goulding was in fourth place through four rounds but unleashed a throw of 12.21m (40-0.75) on her fifth attempt to move into third place; she finished .01m (half inch) behind the runner-up. Prentiss placed fourth with her top effort of 11.86m (38-11) in the third round.
Sophomore Rachel Poulin (Exeter, N.H.) finished fifth of 22 competitors in the javelin with a throw of 34.62m (113-7). After fouling on her first attempt, Poulin moved into fifth place with a mark of 33.16m in round 2. She entered the final round in sixth place but recorded her top throw of the day to climb into fifth.
Freshman Natalia Rothwell (Acton, Maine) was the top 'Cat and tied for fifth overall in the high jump by clearing 1.52m (4-11.75). Rothwell advanced past 1.52m on her second attempt and then she was one of six competitors who did not clear 1.57m. Sophomore Sydney Valenti (Plymouth, N.H.) – another one of the six – placed eighth.
Pelletier led a 6-7-8 finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.42 seconds in the finals. She was followed by junior Jules Hickey (Pawling, N.Y.) in 15.51 and freshman Maddox Lovely (Newport, N.H.) in 15.89. All three 'Cats advanced out of the field of 25 runners in the preliminaries.
Sophomore Brooke White (Barnet, Vt.) finished second in Heat 2 and seventh overall in the 400m with a time of 58.99.
UNH's 'A' team of Liliana Chirichella (Troy, N.H.), Kaitlin Lennox (Hampton, Falls, N.H.), White and Thornton placed second in the 4x400m with a time of 4:03.31. The designated 'B" quartet of juniors Kailey Dillon (Merrimack, N.H.), Lauren MacPhee (Tuftonboro, N.H.) and Emily Williams (Sudbury, Mass.) combined with Lovely to finish fourth in 4:12.92.
