LOWELL, Mass. – Junior Briana Danis (Hooksett, N.H.) and senior Kristen Kirk (Augusta, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team both won individual gold and the Wildcats won both relay races at the George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell's Cushing Field Complex on Saturday.
Danis and sophomore Emma Reaves (Westminster, Md.) took the top two spots in the invitational discus. Danis bested the field of 12 competitors with a throw of 44.18 meters (144 feet-11 inches) on her second attempt; she was already in first place with a 44.18m in the first round. Reaves was in second place following her first throw of 40.04m and she recorded her top mark of 42.19m (138.5) in the fifth round.
Kirk won the high jump when she cleared 1.60m (5-3) on the last of three attempts – the other three competitors at that height did not. One of those was teammate and freshman Natalia Rothwell (Acton, Maine), who earned fourth place at 1.55m (5-1).
