Moore Wins Long Jump, Women in 2nd Place at America East Championships

LOWELL, Mass. – Sophomore Sarah Moore (Lisbon, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team won the long jump for the second consecutive year at the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at UMass Lowell to help lead the Wildcats to second place in the team standings.
UNH won three individual medals and amassed 47 points. In addition to Moore's gold metal, sophomore Emma Reaves (Westminster, Md.) took silver in the hammer and classmate Ruth White (Orono, Maine) earned silver in the 10,000 meter run.
Bryant University sits atop the team standings (5 of 22 events scored) with 54 points. UAlbany and the University of Vermont are tied for third with 20.
The conference championships conclude Sunday at UMass Lowell.
"I'm very impressed with our performance today," said Anna Magle-Haberek, the director of the women's and men's track & field and cross country programs. "Despite very challenging weather conditions, we competed hard, saw many points scored and people advance to finals. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do (Sunday)."

The Wildcats earned 19 points in the long jump by finishing first, fourth and fifth – none of the 'Cats changed places in the finals.
Moore, who recorded all three leaps over 6.0 meters, led from start to finish in the field of 32 competitors. She recorded a mark of 6.03m on her first attempt, followed with 6.04m and then recorded her winning effort of 6.13m (20 feet-1.5 inches) in the third round.
Moore has won three consecutive long jump titles spanning the 2025 outdoor, 2026 indoor and 2026 outdoor seasons.
Sophomore Mariam Nada (Portsmouth, N.H.) was in fourth place through three rounds with a mark of 5.79m and bested that distance with a personal-best of 5.82m (19-1.25) on her last attempt.
Junior Audrey Thornton (Reading, Mass.) had a top effort of 5.67m through three rounds to rank fifth on the leaderboard and she recorded a personal-best mark of 5.78m (18-11.75) on her fifth attempt.
UNH garnered 13 more points in the hammer by finishing second, sixth and seventh.
Reaves was in second place following her first throw of 52.74m and remained in that position the rest of the way. She recorded her top effort in the second round with a personal-best throw of 55.35m (181-7).
Junior Briana Danis (Hooksett, N.H.) entered the finals in sixth place and then recorded er scoring mark of 50.96m (167-2) in the fourth round. Sophomore Ruby Prentiss (Falmouth, Maine) recorded her top throw on 49.68m (163-0) on her third attempt.
White, who led for nearly half the 10,000m run, was second across the finish line in 33:55.29. She was in second place as the lead pack completed the first lap and she advanced to the lead position on the next corner. White held a lead of approximately 3.5 seconds in laps three through eight. Bryant's Jasmine Trott edged in front as the runners completed lap 12. White remained on her heels until moving back in front with three laps remaining. Trott passed the Wildcat with 800m to go, then pulled away in the last lap to secure the win.
Sophomore Rachel Poulin (Exeter, N.H.) was in fourth place from the first through sixth rounds of the javelin. She recorded a mark of 39.70m on her first attempt and topped that at a personal-best 40.37m (132-5) in the fifth round.
Senior Kristen Kirk (Augusta, Maine) also held her position – seventh place – in the javelin from the first through sixth rounds. She entered the finals with a mark of 33.59m and bested that on her fifth attempt with a throw of 34.84m (114-3).
Kirk is also competing in the heptathlon and is in fifth place with2,474 points through the scoring of four events. Kirk's top scoring event was the 100m hurdles, where she crossed the finish line in 15.67 seconds to earn 755 points. She was the top high jumper among the heptathletes and earned 666 points for clearing 1.54m.
Junior Kailey Dillon (Merrimack, N.H.) is in seventh place at 2,436 points and freshman Maddox Lovely (Newport, N.H.) is 10th at 2,124. Dillon's top events were the 100m hurdles (739 points) and 200m (735). Those were also the top two point-getters for Lovely, who tallied 668 in the 100m hurdles and 625 in the 200m.
Three Wildcats advanced out of Saturday's preliminary races into Sunday finals.
Grad student Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) took the first step in defending her 1,500m title as she automatically advanced by winning Heat 1 with a time of 4:38.79.
A pair of long jumpers also advanced in sprints. Nada surged to victory in the last 20 meters of Heat 1 to earn automatic qualifier status in the 100m with a time of 11.99 seconds. Moore, between her third and fourth attempts in the long jump, qualified in the 200m with a time of 24.88 seconds; she was second in Heat 2 and fifth overall.
