Danis Leads Podium Sweep of Hammer at UNH Wildcat Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Briana Danis (Hooksett, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team won the hammer throw to lead the Wildcats to first place after Day 1 of the UNH Wildcat Invitational at Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility on Friday.
Through two events, UNH leads with 32 points, followed by St. Anselm in second place (13 points) and Bryant University in third (11). CLICK HERE to view complete results.
Danis led a 1-2-3 sweep of the hammer with a mark of 53.24m (174 feet-8 inches). She entered the final round in second place but unleashed the throw of 53.24m to climb to the top of the leaderboard among 13 competitors.
Sophomore Emma Reaves (Westminster Md.) recorded a personal best on her fourth attempt and then bested it on her last throw to finish in second place with a distance of 52.39m (171-10). Classmate Ruby Prentiss (Falmouth, Maine) was the leader through the preliminary rounds with a mark of 49.43m (16-2) on her second attempt, and she placed third on that effort.
Sophomore Rachel Poulin (Exeter, N.H.) was the top 'Cat and second overall in the javelin with a scoring mark of 36.40m (122-8). She recorded that on her first attempt to be in the runner-up position and held it the rest of the way in a field of 12 competitors.
Senior Kristen Kirk (Augusta, Maine) was in third place following her first throw and recorded her best effort of 36.01m (118-1) in the second round to hold onto third place.
The UNH women's track & field team returns to action for Day 2 of the Wildcat Invitational on April 25. The Senior Day ceremony is at 10am, followed by field events at 11am and track events at 11:30am.
