UNH Wins Four Events at Wildcats Invitational I

Wildcats also compete at Colonial Relays at William & Mary
DURHAM, N.H. and WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Joshua Hoffman (Litchfield, N.H.) won an event and placed second in another to highlight the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team's results at Saturday afternoon's Wildcat Invitational I at the Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility.
UNH won four events and had seven runner-up finishes at the Wildcat Invitational. A handful of 'Cats also competed in Day 2 of the Colonial Relays at the College of William and Mary.

Hoffman bested the field of eight competitors with a throw of 51.14m in the discus. Two of his other throws – 49.42m and 49.38m – were also better than the runner-up's mark.
Hoffman placed second in the shot put with an effort of 14.36m; he recorded that mark in the third of six rounds.
Sophomore Zack Plaza (Derry, N.H.) and senior Spenser Sawyer (Windham, N.H.) took the top two spots in the 800-meter dash. Plaza set the pace with a 400m split of 58.62 seconds and was the only one to run a sub-60 second lap for a winning time of 1:57.74. Sawyer was third at the 400m split and was second only to Plaza in the next 400m to finish second in 1:59.56.
Sophomore Andrew Kelly (Portsmouth, N.H.) won the high jump at 1.90 meters; he was the only one of four competitors who cleared that height on his first attempt.
Senior Michael Monahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a winning time of 14.47 seconds in the 110m hurdles.
Monahan ran the opening leg of UNH's 4x100m relay that took second place with a clocking of 46.17 seconds. He handed the baton to senior Emmanuel Nkounkou (Dover, N.H.), then junior Richard Randall (Spofford, N.H.) ran the third leg followed by Sawyer in the anchor leg.
Nkounkou took second place in the long jump with a distance of 6.62m; he recorded a mark of 6.36m in round 1 to sit in second place and bested that in round 5.
Freshman Kevin Finn (Kennebunk, Maine) ran to a second-place finish in the 1,500m with a time of 4:06.59. Finn ran in heat 1 and was in seventh place at the first split, climbed to sixth place at the second split and fourth in the third split before recording a 1:02.24 in the final 400m to finish as the runner-up.
Plaza and Finn ran two of the legs in the second-place 4x400m relay as the Wildcats crossed the finish line in 3:42.44. Junior Alexander Cermak (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Peyton Ramsey (Plainville, Conn.) completed UNH's relay quartet.
Senior John King Jr. (Derry, N.H.) was runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 53.90m. He was in third place midway through the six rounds, but then recorded his top mark to climb into second place.
Junior Forest MacKenzie (Deerfield, N.H.) and senior Matthew Walker (Westerly, R.I.) placed 3-4 in the 3,000m. Mackenzie recorded the fastest final 400m split of 1:04.72, but he finished .20 seconds behind the runner-up to finish third in 8:58.49. Walker crossed the finish line in 9:00.36.
Junior Andrew Fleming (Acton, Mass.) was the top 'Cat and third overall in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.58m. Senior Patrick Brogioli (Milford, Mass.) followed in fourth place at 47.59m and freshman Max Rome (North Kingstown, R.I.) in sixth at 43.21m.
Fleming (13.58m), Rome (13.18m) and Brogioli (12.93m) finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put.

- The quartet of junior Dillon Adamy (Clinton, N.J.), senior Jack Kennefick (Walpole, Mass.), junior William Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and freshman Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) raced to fifth place in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:10.02.
- Junior Kenney McElroy (West Linn, Ore.) placed 23rd in the 800m with a time of 1:55.62.
The UNH men's track & field team returns to action April 8 at the Ocean State Invitational (Providence College) and April 9 at Wildcat Invitational II.
