Two-time All-American Lyons takes third in women's 15K free

MIDWAY, Utah – UNH sophomore Nordic skier Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) became a two-time All-American by placing third Saturday in the women's 15K freestyle at Solder Hollow, and the Wildcat ski team finished sixth overall at the 2022 NCAA Ski Championships, which represents the best national finish in the 40-year career of UNH Ski Coordinator/Nordic head coach Cory Schwartz.

"I'm so happy for the team," Schwartz said. "To come in sixth place took an entire team effort. This finished one of our best seasons in recent years and sets us on a path for continued success regionally and nationally."

Host Utah won its third straight national championship with 578.0 points, followed by Vermont (511.5), Denver (436.5), Colorado (435.0), Alaska Anchorage (269.0) and UNH (241.0).

Lyons, who placed eighth in Thursday's 5K classic for All-American Second Team distinction, added First Team to her collection by completing the 15K free in 38 minutes, 5.0 seconds for 34 points. Freshman Lisa Nystedt (Stockholm, Sweden) took 15th place in 39:49.5 for 16 points, and junior Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) clocked in at 41:00.3 for 24th place (seven points). The Wildcat women's Nordic team finished third (57 points), behind Utah (100) and Alaska Fairbanks (73).

Junior Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.) led the UNH men's Nordic team by finishing 16th in the 20K free with a time of 44:07.7 (15 points). Freshman Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) notched 27th place (45:27.9) for four points, and sophomore Seth Wyatt (Bozeman, Mont.) finished 38th (47:29.2).

•UNH posted its 29th Top-10 finish in Schwartz's 40 years at the helm. Graduate student men's alpine skier Bastian Meisen (Munich, Germany) collected All-American Second Team in giant slalom, and freshman women's alpine skier Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia) recorded All-American Second Team in slalom to give the Wildcats four 2022 NCAA All-Americans.
