Christian Scores Goal in 4-1 Loss at Maine

ORONO, Maine – Junior Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario) scored a goal but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 4-1 by the University of Maine at Alfond Arena on Friday afternoon.
Christian's power-play goal – set up by sophomore Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) and senior Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) – gave UNH a 1-0 lead late in the first period.
Senior captain Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) made 22 saves with three goals allowed; Maine netted a power-play goal with 93 seconds remaining.
Celine Tedenby scored the first and last goals for the Black Bears. Jorden Mattison was credited with 20 saves.
UNH moves to 11-19-2 overall and 9-15-1 in Hockey East. Maine is now 13-18-1, 11-13-1.

- The 2022 Hockey East tournament begins Wednesday, Feb. 23 with a pair of first round games. UNH is locked into the No. 8 seed and will play host to ninth-seeded Merrimack College in one of those games.
FIRST PERIOD
- New Hampshire netted the only goal with a 10-6 shot advantage in the opening 20 minutes.
- Maine went on the first power play of the game at 4:38 but Boutilier stopped the only shot to backbone a successful penalty kill.
- With four minutes on the clock, Rickwood's slap shot from the left point was redirected in the slot by Christian and stopped by Mattison.
- Moments later, sophomore Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario) carried the puck through the neutral zone down the slot and was denied twice at the top of the crease by Mattison.
- Christian netted a power-play goal at 19:35. Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) slid the puck across the high slot to the right point, where Rickwood's slapshot was stopped by Mattison. At the right doorstep, Truter backhanded the puck across the top of the crease and Christian one-timed a shot into the open cage.
SECOND PERIOD
- Maine recorded a 10-3 shot advantage and outscored the 'Cats 1-0 in the second stanza to tie the score through 40 minutes.
- Tedenby leveled the score, 1-1, at 11:02 when her shot from the left doorstep beat Boutilier between the legs.
THIRD PERIOD
- Maine netted three goals, including an empty-netter, in the final five minutes.
- The Black Bears converted their fifth power play of the game into a 2-1 lead at 15:16 on Elise Morphy's screened shot from the high slot.
- Mira Seregely scored off her own rebound at the top of the crease to extend the advantage to 3-1 at 17:45.
- UNH pulled Boutilier in favor of an extra skater at 18:06, but Tedenby scored 21 seconds later into the empty net to secure the victory.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Maine finished with a 26-21 shot advantage and went 1-for- 5 on the power play.
- UNH had a 25-21 edge in the faceoff circle and was 1-for-3 on the power play.
- The Wildcats blocked 11 shot attempts; Maine blocked two.

- Christian scored her sixth goal overall – first on the power play – this season.
- Rickwood became the third Wildcat to reach 10+ assists this season; she ranks third with 10.

- Boutilier increased her UNH career saves record to 2,884; she eclipsed the previous benchmark of 2,851 held by All-American and UNH Hall of Famer Jen Huggon (2000-03) on Feb. 15 vs. No. 4 Northeastern University.
- Senior captain Maddie Truax (Gardner, Mass.), who entered the weekend atop the Hockey East leaderboard in blocked shots, recorded a game-high four blocks.
- Brooks won a team-high 10 faceoffs but junior Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.) had the top winning percentage (66.75) by winning 8 of 12 faceoffs.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 34-18-8 lifetime record against Maine that includes 18-8-5 on the road.
- The Black Bears are now unbeaten at home the past seven meetings (4-0-3) dating back to UNH's 3-0 win on Jan. 4, 2016.
