Sophomore recorded first- and third-place finishes at Dartmouth
DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) of the University of New Hampshire skiing team was named the EISA Nordic Skier of the Week on Wednesday. She is the first Wildcat to receive this award in the 2022 season.
Lyons bested the field of 83 skiers in the women's 10k freestyle race of the Dartmouth College Carnival at Oak Hill on Feb. 12. She crossed the finish line in 31 minutes, 13.0 seconds, which was 54.3 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
It was the second time this season a UNH skier won an event, but the first time it was accomplished by a Wildcat Nordic skier. Grad student Bastian Meisen (Munich, Germany) won the men's giant slalom at the Saint Michael's Carnival on Jan. 21.
One day earlier, Lyons raced to third place – out of 84 competitors – in the women's 5k Classic with a time of 16:45.0.
Lyons now has three top-5 finishes in 2022. Earlier this season, she placed second in the 10k free at the St. Michael's Carnival on Jan. 21. She is ranked No. 1 in EISA in freestyle and No. 3 overall among women's East skiers.
The UNH skiing team returns to action Feb. 18-19 at the Middlebury Carnival. The Nordic events are at Rikert Touring Center and the alpine races are at Middlebury Snow Bowl.
