Wildcats stand in second place after Day 1 of the AE Championships

UNH garnered 100 total points on the opening day of the conference championship
WORCESTER, Mass. -- The University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team opened up competition at the America East Championship on Thursday afternoon at the Sports & Recreation Center on the campus of WPI.
The Wildcats, who are defending their league-record ninth America East Championship opened the day with 100 total points, trailing just Binghamton on opening day.Â
UNH opened the day with a third-place finish in the one-meter dive by sophomore Keira Moon (Middleton, Mass.) with 227.75 points, while sophomore Hannah Weatherby (Newtown, Conn.) placed eighth accumulating 207.85 total points.
The 'Cats 800 free relay team of senior Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany), junior Jamy Lum (Honolulu, Hawaii), sophomore Abby McKinney (Westfield, N.J.) and junior Olivia Stille (Stocklholm, Sweden) earned a second-place finish with a mark of 7:24.31. UNH also placed second in the 200 yard medley relay comprised of Metzler, Lum, freshman Ciara Pradissitto (Milan, Italy) and senior Cate Wardinski (Burke, Va.) posting a time of 1:41.79.Â
"We are really pleased with tonight's results," said UNH head coach Josh Willman. "Our divers did a great job getting into a position in finals that scored important points for us and our second place finishes in both the 800 free relay and 200 free relay have kept us in the mix for the rest of the weekend."
The Wildcats return to action on Day 2 of the America East Championships on Friday, February 11 from WPI.
