'Cats Open Season with Victory at Home Against Vermont, 82-63

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team earned a 82-63 victory in their season opening meet against Vermont on Sunday afternoon at Paul Sweet Oval.
Senior Aidan O'Hern (Concord, N.H.) earned the win in the 3000 meter run with a mark of 8:48.13. Senior Andrew Fleming (Acton, Mass.) notched a victory in the shot put with a throw of 49'4.25".
"We are always happy when we win as team, it was great to get our first competition after great preseason of training," mentioned UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. We had a number of first-place finishes and it's about head-to-head competition. Fleming and O'Hern have done a great job leading example and they showed up today ready to go and competed very well."
Freshman Nathan Fletcher (Portsmouth, N.H.) earned the victory in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.35, while senior Dillon Adamy (Lebanon, N.J.) took home first-place in the 1000 meter run with a mark of 2:36.07.
Junior Andrew Kelly (Portsmouth, N.H.) finished first in the long jump with a mark of 20'2.25". Sophomore Max Rome (North Kingstown, R.I.) registered a win in the weight throw with a mark of 51'9.25".
Freshman Samuel Hilts (Concord, N.H.) picked up the victory in the mile run with a time of 4:22.46.
Freshman Cameron Jacobs (Naugatuck, Conn.) earned first-place in the 55 meter hurdles (8.67).
The relay team comprised of Adrian Sutton (Rochester, N.H.), William Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.), Adamy and Hilts earned the victory in the 4x400 relay with a mark of 3:34.57.
Kenney McElroy (West Linn, Ore.), Zach Plaza (Auburn, N.H.), Brayden Kearns (Deerfield, N.H.) and Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) took home first in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:22.91.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, December 9 against Northeastern from the Track at New Balance in Boston.
