O'Connor Named America East Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Freshman guard Avery O'Connor (Dedham, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team has been named the America East Rookie of the Week. The announcement came from the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

O'Connor put up 13 points in the team's 63-60 victory over Merrimack on Dec. 21. She also made three 3-pointers and drained both of her free throw attempts for the 'Cats. Defensively, she collected eight rebounds.

She leads the team in points with 147, averaging 12.3 points a game. Her career high came in her first appearance for the Wildcats against Colby Sawyer on Nov. 27, when she scored 27 points and made five 3-pointers.

This is O'Connor's first league recognition as Rookie of the Week.

The Wildcats are back in action when they open conference play against NJIT on Thurs, Nov. 29 with a 7 p.m. tip off in Newark, N.J. They return to Lundholm Gym on New Year's Day to take on league opponent UAlbany at 2 p.m.
