Daniels Records Double-Double in 64-57 Loss to Boston U.

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) recorded 18 points and 14 rebounds but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was defeated 64-57 by Boston University at Lundholm Gym on Sunday afternoon.
Daniels led all players in both scoring and rebounding to record his second double-double of the season. Grad student forward Jaxson Baker (Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 points) and guard Matt Herasme (Chester, N.Y.; 11), another grad student, also scored in double digits and Herasme pulled down seven rebounds.
Nevin Zink and Walter Whyte both recorded 14 points and eight rebounds for BU while Fletcher Tynen finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
New Hampshire is now 2-2 overall and BU, which finished the game on a 10-3 run in the final three minutes, is 4-1.
UNH returns to action Nov. 26 (2 p.m.) at George Washington. The Wildcats' next home game is Wednesday, Nov. 30 (7 p.m.) against Sacred Heart.

BU scored the first four points of the game and led 6-4 before Baker hit consecutive 3-pointers from the top of the key to give the 'Cats a 12-8 lead at 12:06 of the first half. Herasme scored the next two baskets to give UNH its largest lead of the game, 16-8, at 9:51.
The Terriers went on a 10-2 run to tie the score, 18-18, at 6:39, but UNH inched ahead, 24-20, on 3-pointers by junior guard Kyree Brown (Oakland, Calif.) and Herasme. Brown mad a pair of free throws to push the margin to 26-20 at 3:58, but the visitors scored the last five points of the half to close within 26-25.
BU also opened the second half on a 5-0 run to surge ahead, 31-26. The Wildcats ended the 10-point run on Daniels' step-back jumper at 18:45, but the Terriers pushed the margin to eight points, 36-28, at 16:08.
Trailing 42-34, UNH went on a 7-0 run capped by Baker's 3-pointer at 9:51 and then pulled even at 44 on a pair of Daniels free throws at 7:25.
BU's Zink scored on a putback on the next possession to put the Terriers back in front and they led by five points three times before grad student guard Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, N.Y.) drove to the basket for a layup and Baker hit another 3-ball to tie the score, 54-54, at 3:12.
Whyte's layup once again gave the lead to BU at 2:48 and Zink made a short-range hook shot in the paint to extend the advantage to 58-54 with 55 seconds remaining.
After missing a jumper, the Wildcats intentionally fouled Zink to send him to the foul line for the 1-and-1 bonus. He missed the free throw, but Tynen pulled down the rebound and then Jonas Harper hit two foul shots to give BU a 60-54 lead with 27 seconds on the clock.
UNH missed a driving layup with 18 seconds and Harper made two more free throws to push the advantage to 62-54 with 16 seconds to play. Derry's 3-pointer lifted the Wildcats within 62-57 with eight seconds left. Whyte was fouled immediately on the inbounds play and hit two free throws to close the scoring.
Brown finished with nine points and a game-high five assists.
Baker's four 3-pointers and 12 points are both season highs. He was 4-for-8 from 3-point range and the rest of the team was 3 of 18 from beyond the arc. BU made 3 of 22 3-pointers.
The Terriers made 17 of 22 free throws, including 6-for-6 in the last 30 seconds to secure the win. UNH was 12 of 14 at the foul line.
Both teams took care of the basketball; UNH committed eight turnovers and BU had only six.
BU outscored the Wildcats 34-16 in the paint and 14-8 in second-chance points.
