10/16/2022 4:28:00 PM | Field Hockey
The three goals, two assists and eight points are all career highs for Cookman, whose twin sister Tasmin Cookmann (Woking, England) finished with two goals and two assists. Junior Lindsay Lee (Eindhoven, Netherlands) factored in multiple goals with one goal and two assists, as did junior Olivia Watson (Easton, Pa.) with a goal and an assist.
UNH's other goal scorers were grad student Juliane Ohmen (Bremen, Germany), junior Lily Rothwell (Lynnfield, Mass.), and freshmen Brecken Calcari (St. Louis, Mo.) and Bella Davies-Roche (Lymington, United Kingdom).
Sophomore goalkeeper Elsa Goldsberry (Lake Bluff, Ill.), in her first career start, stopped three of four shots on goal in 48:07 to earn her first win. In her UNH debut, junior Mariana Birdthistle (Limerick, Ireland) did not face a shot on goal in the final 11:53.
MC goalie Paige DeGeorge made six saves and Autumn Bartush was credited with two defensive saves. Abby Allen scored the Warriors' goal.
UNH improved to 7-7 overall and 6-2 at home while Merrimack is now 0-14.

FIRST QUARTER
- New Hampshire scored a goal both early and late in the first quarter to build a 2-0 lead through 15 minutes.
- The penalty corner battery of Lee and Tasmin Cookman set up Tamera Cookman's direct shot from the top of the circle into the cage to give UNH a 1-0 lead at 2:01.

SECOND QUARTER
- Merrimack began to generate some offensive pressure with six shots and six corners in the second quarter – in comparison to no shots and one corner in the first – but UNH outscored the guests 4-0 to extend the lead to 6-0 before halftime.
- Freshman Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) dribbled past one defender on the right end line and slipped the ball past another defender to Tasmin Cookman, who one-timed a low shot inside the near post to give UNH a 3-0 lead at 20:00.
- Ohmen, who was a four-year letterwinner at Merrimack, pushed the margin to 4-0 just 46 seconds later when her reverse stick from deep on the left side went across the goalmouth inside the far post. Tasmin Cookman, with the pass out of the left corner, was credited with the assist.
- The 'Cats also scored their next two goals within a minute to quickly extend the lead to 6-0.
- Lee initiated and finished the scoring sequence on the fifth goal at 24:56. On a corner, she inserted the ball to Tasmin Cookman at the top of the circle. Tamera Cookman then sent the ball to the left doorstep, where Lee redirected a shot into the open cage.
- Tamera Cookman scored on another direct shot on a corner – this time with Lee and sophomore Ella Pratt (Greenwood Village, Colo.) as the battery – at 25:51.
THIRD QUARTER
- Davies-Roche corralled an entry pass by senior captain Ava Mariani (Easton, Pa.) on the left side and struck a rising reverse-stick shot inside the far post for a 7-0 lead at 38:11.
- MC trimmed the deficit to 7-1 at 43:03 when Allen ran onto a long pass and beat Goldsberry in a 1-v-1 by pulling the ball from the right side to the middle and scoring into the open cage.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Cookman scored her third goal of the game on yet another direct shot off a corner by placing a shot inside the left post at 46:01. Watson began the sequence with the insert to classmate and stick-stop Reagan Calcari (St. Louis, Mo.) at the top of the circle.
- Watson increased the lead to 9-1 at 55:23 when she collected Rothwell's pass on the left wing and eluded a pair of defenders before shooting low inside the right post.
- DeGeorge kicked the ball on a long entry pass, but Rothwell intercepted the clearing attempt and deposited a shot into the open cage for a 10-1 advantage at 56:00.
- UNH converted another corner into an 11-1 lead at 57:12. Tamera Cookman's initial shot was stopped by DeGeorge. Brecken Calcari gained possession on the left side and lifted a shot into the cage.
