Colbert & Martell Ready for NCAA Preliminary Round

Colbert will compete in the discus throw and Martell in the 800m.
INDIANAPOLIS – Graduate student Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) and freshman Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) of the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team have qualified for the 2021 NCAA Preliminary Round at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
Colbert will compete in the discus throw on Saturday, May 29 at 1:30 p.m. Martell qualified in the 800 meters as the first round is on Thursday, May 27 at 7:50 p.m., while the quarterfinals is on Saturday at 7:35 p.m. Colbert and Martell will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championship which will take place from June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Colbert set the school record in the discus throw four times this season and five times total for her career. She won gold at the America East Championships on May 2 with her best throw of the season at 169' 2". She also recently took gold at the New England Championships with a throw of 157' 8" on May 15. This will be her first time competing at the NCAAs. Colbert is seeded No. 36 out of 48 athletes.
Martell won a silver medal in the 800m at the IC4A/ECAC Championships with a school-record time of 2:05.59 on May 15. The previous school record was 2:06.63 established by Elinor Purrier in 2016. Martell earned a bronze in the 800m at the America East Championships on May 2 with a time of 2:07.96. She also won gold in the 4x800 relay at America East Championships. Martell will be seeded No. 27 out of 48 athletes.
