Colbert & Mosongo Win Gold, 'Cats Finish Third at New England Championships

Martell Breaks UNH's 800 Meter Record at IC4A Meet
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Grad students Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) and Bosibori Mosongo (Indianapolis, Ind.) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team both won an individual title on Day 2 of the New England Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Central Connecticut State University's Veterans Stadium. Bosiboro won the heptathlon with a school-record effort and Colbert took first place in the discus.
UNH, which also had a pair of second-place finishes Saturday, finished third overall with 82.5 points. The University of Rhode Island won the meet with 187 points; UMass was next at 83. Quinnipiac University (75) and University of Vermont (48.50) rounded out the top five; there were 29 scoring teams at the meet.

IC4A CHAMPIONSHIPS
UNH also sent one student-athlete to compete at the IC4A Championships at Springfield College and freshman Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) broke the school record with a second-place time of 2 minutes, 5.59 seconds in the 800 meter run; that time bested the previous school benchmark of 2:06.63 established by Elinor Purrier in 2016; it also bested Martell's previous best of 2:07.96 established two weeks ago at the America East Championships. Martell was in fifth place following a first lap split of 59.97 seconds, then ran the second-fastest second 400m of 1:05.62 to climb to second place.

DISCUS
Colbert led wire-to-wire in the discus and recorded a top throw of 157 feet, 8 inches on the last of her six throws. She had a mark of 141-6 in Round 1, then upped that to 150-9 in Round 2 and 157-4 in Round 4 before finishing at 157-8. Colbert bested the runner up by 16 feet, 2 inches.

Colbert has won the discus at all seven outdoor meets in 2021.
Junior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) finished 11th for the second time on Saturday with a mark of 125-00.
HEPTATHLON
Mosongo won the hepthathlon with a school-record total 4,757 points. Her top scoring event Saturday was the 800m (668 points), followed by the long jump (657). On Day 1, Mosongo bested the heptathletes in the high jump with a mark of 5-7 for 855 points; also of note, she scored 791 points in the 100m hurdles (15.31 seconds) and 752 points in the 200m (26.52). She was a top-three finisher in 5 of 7 events and placed fourth in the other two events.
Mosongo bested the previous benchmark of 4,713 points established by Kate Early in 2011.

1,500 METERS
UNH garnered 11 points in the 1,500m run. Junior Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) ran a personal best time of 4 minutes, 30.91 seconds to earn second place; she bested her previous mark (4:33.44) by 2.53 seconds. Grad student Michaella Conery (Concord, N.H.) placed second in Section 2 and sixth overall with a time of 4:42.79.
Freshman Emma York (Penacook, N.H.) and sophomore Violet Sullivan (Brentwood, N.H.) both finished with personal best times in Section 2. York crossed the finish line in 4:52.85 for 13th place and Sullivan was next in 4:53.97.
4x800 METER RELAY
UNH's quartet of Yeomans, York, sophomore Samantha Maffeo (Billerica, Mass.) and Conery finished second with an aggregate time of 9:20.33. Conery received the baton with the Wildcats in third place and trailing Quinnipiac University by five meters. Conery caught QU on her first lap and then pulled away to finish 5.61 seconds ahead of QU.
4x400 METER RELAY
New Hampshire took sixth place in the 4x400m relay as Wildcats Natalie Fraser (Gilford, N.H.), Kelly Hamlin (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), Saige Tudisco (Haverhill, Mass.) and Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 3:56.81
100 METER HURDLES
Junior Saige Tudisco (Haverhill, Mass.), who advanced out of Friday's preliminary round with a time of 15.20 seconds, bested that with an eighth-place effort of 15.07.
SHOT PUT
Williams finished in 11th place with a throw of 39 feet, 7.75 inches. Freshman Abby Chorches (East Falmouth, Mass.) recorded a mark of 34-0.25.
