UNH receives two All-America selections for the second time in program history.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of New Hampshire graduate student defender Bridger Hansen (Cottonwood Heights, Utah) and graduate student forward Paul Mayer (Strasbourg, France) have earned 2020-21 All-America accolades as announced by United Soccer Coaches.
Hansen has been named to the first team, while Mayer is on the third team. This is the second time in program history and the second straight season that UNH has had two All-America selections as Josh Bauer (first team) and Antonio Colacci (third team) were All-Americans for the 2019 season.
Hansen is the second player in program history to receive first team honors as Josh Bauer was a first-team selection in 2019. This is the fourth straight season, the Wildcats have had at least one All-American. The previous All-Americans for UNH were Bob Black (1976), Mike Veneto (1993 & 1994), Robin Schmidt (2017), Bauer (2018 & 2019) and Colacci (2019). Bridger Hansen
Hansen, who was just recently earned first team All-Northeast Region accolades, was named a 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy Award Semifinalist and was the America East Defender of the Year in his first season at UNH. He also earned first team All-Conference accolades. He anchored a defense that only allowed eight goals all season as the team's 0.778 goals against average is 25th in the nation. He also led the team to being tied for first in the league in least goals allowed. Hansen posted his first point as a Wildcat with an assist on the game-winning goal in the 2-0 win over Vermont on April 17 in the America East Championship game. Hansen was previously a Division III third team All-American at Westminster College in 2019.
Mayer also was just named to the All-Northeast Region first team and he earned first team All-Conference in his first season at UNH. He was second on the team with five goals and 12 points, while he was also tied for third with two assists. His two game-winning goals were tied for second. Mayer is 45th in the nation with 0.56 goals per game and he is 56th with 1.33 points per game. Paul Mayer
The Wildcats concluded the season with an 8-1-1 (.850) overall record, posting the best winning percentage in program history. UNH captured its third straight America East Tournament championship, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The Wildcats outscored their opposition this season by a 22-8 margin and earned their highest national ranking in the United Soccer Coach Poll in program history at No. 10.
