UNH is 4-5 overall and 1-4 in America East, and is scheduled to return to action April 9 (1 p.m.) at UMass Lowell. UVM is 1-6, 1-4.
FIRST QUARTER

UNH is 4-5 overall and 1-4 in America East, and is scheduled to return to action April 9 (1 p.m.) at UMass Lowell. UVM is 1-6, 1-4.
FIRST QUARTER
- UVM scored the only goal and recorded a 3-1 shot advantage, including 2-1 on goal, in the opening 15 minutes.
- The Catamounts took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute (9:20) on Kate Hall's deflection off Claudia Cotter's shot.
SECOND QUARTER
- In a scoreless second quarter, the Catamounts recorded a 6-3 shot advantage and both teams had three penalty corners.
- On a UVM corner in the 18th minute, Clodagh Ferry ripped a shot from the top-left but Woods made the kick save.
- In the 20th minute, Haley Buffenbarger's bid from the top-right side was once again directed aside by Woods' leg pads.
- One minute later, Woods made the initial stop on Halls's shot from the right side and, while sitting on the turf, made an acrobatic save to deny Feffry off the rebound in the middle of the circle.
- New Hampshire was awarded a corner in the 24th minute. The battery of freshman Lindsay Lee (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and senior captain Isabelle Danahy (Chelmsford, Mass.) set up freshman Rosalie Post (The Hague, Netherlands). Post intentionally sent the ball wide of the left post and Lee's redirection was stopped by Espelande.
- One minute later, the Catamounts went on a quick counterattack and Sydney Melfi's shot near the right end line was stopped by Woods.
- Vermont was awarded a corner, however, and Woods denied Buffenbarger to keep UNH within one goal.
- The Wildcats earned a corner in the 27th minute. The ball was swung to the left side, where Post fired a reverse-stick shot that Espelande kicked away.
- UNH beat the clock to get a corner with 16 seconds on the clock but van den Brekel's direct shot was blocked, and then the ball went off a Wildcats' stick over the end line to end the half.
THIRD QUARTER
- UVM scored the only goal of the quarter with a 5-2 shot advantage.
- In the 35th minute, junior Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) advanced near the end line to the right of the cage, but her close-range shot was stopped by Espelande.
- From the middle of the circle, Matthews was denied by Woods in the 39th minute, and moments later from the left side she fired a shot wide of the near post.
- Matthews extended the advantage to 2-0 at 40:16. UNH touched the ball on a restart coming out of the defensive zone but then did not continue play. Matthews charged in to take possession and blasted a shot from the left wing into the cage.
- Woods made another strong save with 1:32 remaining in the third quarter when Laura Zavri corralled the ball just left of the penalty stroke dot and rifled a low shot.
FOURTH QUARTER
- New Hampshire recorded a 4-2 shot advantage in the final 15 minutes and both teams tallied a goal in the final quarter.
- Vermont pushed the advantage to 3-0 on another UNH defensive miscue. An errant back pass was collected by Matthews and she scored off her own rebound into an open cage at 48:38.
- One minute later, sustained Wildcats' pressure led to a goal. Caron's initial shot was stopped by Espelande but led to a corner. That short corner produced a shot by senior Conner Allen (Centreville, Md.) that was blocked but led to another corner.
- UNH converted that corner into a goal that trimmed the deficit to 3-1 at 50:04. Lee once again inserted the ball to Danahy at the top of the circle. Sophomore Molly McAteer (Annapolis, Md.), instead of taking the direct shot, pushed the ball to the right side to van den Brekel, whose shot deflected off a UVM defender's stick into the right side of the cage.
- Espelande made one last save in the waning seconds on a shot by junior Tia Raspante (Sandwich, Mass.).
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Vermont finished with a 16-10 shot advantage that included 13-7 on goal.
