Wildcats hit the road for Friday dual meet at Vermont

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Wildcats are 2-0 on the year after wins against Vermont and Maine. The Wildcats are coming off a 26-day layoff since their last meet on March 6 against Maine at Swasey Pool. The Wildcats defeated Vermont in the season-opening meet at Swasey Pool in Durham by a score of 171.5-675 on Saturday, February 20. The Wildcats won 12 of 13 events on the day against the Catamounts. UNH was led by junior Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany) who set new pool records in the 200 and 400 individual medley. The All-American posted a 1:59.23 time in the 200 IM and a mark of 4:10.57 in the 400 IM.
SCOUTING VERMONT: The Catamounts are 2-2 heading into Friday's meet and are coming off a 171-123 victory against Rhode Island on Saturday, March 20.
LAST TIME OUT: The UNH swimming and diving team earned a 170-111 victory on Senior Day against Maine on March 6 at Swasey Pool. The Wildcats won every swimming event on the day vs. the Black Bears. Sophomore Olivia Stille (Stockholm, Sweden) won multiple events in the 50 (24.47) and 100-yard (52.48) freestyle, while classmate Jamy Lum (Honolulu, Hawaii) was victorious in the 100-yard (1:06.22) and 200-yard (2:21.16) breaststroke. Freshman Michaela Herwig (Geneva, Ill.) had a good showing in the 500 free with a time of 5:13.81 and also took the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke (59.75). Sophomore Paige Edmier (Bartlett, Ill.) posted her fastest in-season time in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:42.41. Freshman Abby McKinney (Westfield, N.J.) was victorious in the 200 free at 1:56.88, while Paige Hillis (Mississauga, Ont.) won the 200-yard backstroke with 2:11.51 mark. UNH's 200-yard medley relay team earned first place with a time of 1:48.17 The Wildcats honored their three seniors Miranda Bacon (Scotia, N.Y.), Meg Carroll (Haverhill, Mass.) and Hillis in a special pre-meet ceremony in the final home meet of their collegiate careers. Metzler didn't compete as she prepares for the upcoming NCAA Championships in the 200 and 400 IM.
METZLER COMPETES AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Anna Metzler competed in the preliminaries of the 200 IM at the NCAA Championships on March 18 and posted a time of 2:01.00 in heat two, where she finished tied for sixth and placed 59th overall among 69 total swimmers in the event. Her time was the fifth fastest mark in program history.
She also competed in the preliminaries of the 400 IM the next day (March 19), with a mark of 4:13.26, which was the third best time in her heat and she placed 28th overall among 43 competitors in her second event of the NCAA Championships. Her time marked the fifth fastest time in school history for the Wildcats.
AN EYE ON THE AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Wildcats will be looking to defend their America East Championship this season, they have won a conference record eight America East Championships, all under the guidance of Head Coach Josh Willman.
The conference championship will be held at two different venues on separate weekends. The diving portion of the championship will take place at Binghamton University on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18, while the swimming portion will be hosted by NJIT from April 23-25.
