#18 Wildcats Edged 1-0 by UAlbany

DURHAM, N.H. – The shots were even at six and 18th-ranked University of New Hampshire generated the only four corners, but it was the University at Albany field hockey team that recorded a 1-0 victory at Memorial Field on Friday afternoon.
Junior Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) led the Wildcats three shots, one on goal. Sophomore goalie Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) had a game-high three saves.
UAlbany's Hanna Zarilli scored the only goal of the game late in the third period to give the Great Danes the lead. Sheridan Messier had two saves to earn her first shutout of the season.
UNH falls to 3-2, 0-1 in America East and is scheduled to play host to the University of California Davis on March 21 (1 p.m.) at Memorial Field.
UAlbany is 2-1, 1-0 in America East.

1st QUARTER
- Senior captain Isabelle Danahy (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a shot on goal at 12:44 but Messier was there to stop it.
- The first period ended scoreless with UNH holding the only shot.
2nd QUARTER
- Katie MacCallum had a shot on UNH's goal but was denied by Woods at 22:02.
- UAlbany's attempted entry pass deflected off a UNH stick at the top of the circle, but Woods redirect it with her left foot to clear it out of the circle.
- With halftime approaching, a shot from the stick of sophomore Ava Mariani (Easton, Pa.) tailed wide right 28:45.
- Heading into the second half, the score remains scoreless. UNH is outshooting UAlbany, 2-1.
3rd QUARTER
- The Wildcats earned the first corner of the game at 32:04 but were unable to generate a shot.
- UNH got their second corner of the game and in the period at 39:11. The battery of freshman Lindsay Lee (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and Danahy set up the direct shot by freshman Rosalie Post (The Hague, Netherlands). Her blast was tipped by Caron's outstretched stick in the middle of the circle and the ball sailed over the crossbar.
- Carlotte Triggs' reverse-stick shot from the top-left rolled wide right of the cage at 42:11.
- Zarilli advanced from the right wing toward the post and ripped a shot near side to give the Great Danes a 1-0 lead with nine seconds left on the clock.
- UAlbany recorded a 2-1 shots advantage in the third quarter. UNH had a 2-0 edge in corners.
4th QUARTER
- Near the start the fourth period, Triggs had two quick shots and Woods saved them both in the 46th minute to keep the margin at one goal.
- At 47:30, Zarilli's shot went wide right to give UAlbany three shots in the first three minutes of the final period.
- With seven minutes remaining, Caron recorded a pair of shots, the second of which from the top-right of the circle was kicked aside by Messier.
- UNH was awarded back-to-back corners in the 55th minute. On the second insert, the direct shot by senior captain Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) was wide left at 54:32.
- Neither team recorded a shot or corner the rest of the way.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Each team had the same number of shots taken with six apiece, but UAlbany recorded a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.
- The Wildcats had four corners to the Great Danes' zero.
- UAlbany was issued two green cards, whereas the Wildcats had none.
- Neither team was credited with a defensive save.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire lost its first home game this season. They are now 3-1 at Memorial Field.
- This is the second time the Wildcats have been shut out this season.
- Woods, the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week, is 2-2 with a 0.86 GAA and .824 save percentage.
- Woods' shutout streak ended at 135 minutes, 26 seconds with UAlbany's goal at 44:51.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire has a 14-18 lifetime record against UAlbany.
- UNH had won the previous two matchups.
- The last time the Great Danes won in Durham was in 2017.
