Wildcats downed by Maine in season opener on Saturday in Orono, 89-74

ORONO, Maine -- The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team was defeated at Maine in the season opener on Saturday, 89-74 at the Maine Field House.
"Even though we got beat, we had a really good performance ," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "I was excited about the competitiveness of both of our teams, we have a lot we can build around. It was good to get our there and compete."
Patrick Brogioli (Milford, Mass.) earned a first place finish in the weight throw (53'05), while Kevin McGrath (Hopkinton, N.H.) earned gold in the high jump with a mark of 6'08.
Aidan O'Hern (Concord, N.H.) picked up the victory in the one mile run (4:12.50), while Michael Monahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a time of 8.35 in the 60 meter hurdles. Jack Kennefick (Walpole, Mass.) earned first place in the 500-meter run (1:09.29), while Dillon Adamy (Clinton, N.J.) was victorious in the 1000-meter run at 2:32.60.
Forest MacKenzie (Deerfield, N.H.) also got the win in the 3000 meter un at 8:59.16.
Both Wildcat relay teams took home wins in the 4x400 (3:30.67) and 4x800 (8:07.76).
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, December 11 with a quad meet at Dartmouth with Vermont and Maine (12pm).
