Torres notched a career-high 21 points in the win for the Wildcats
DURHAM, N.H. – Graduate student Amanda Torres (Hudson, NH.) and senior Sophia Widmeyer (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.) put up big numbers to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 59-45 victory Tuesday afternoon against Siena College at Lundholm Gym in non-conference action.
Torres recorded a career and game-high 21 points (4-4 free throws), two steals, and five assists in 36 minutes of play. Junior Helena Delaruelle (Enghien-les-Bains, France.), also helped the 'Cats with a total of nine points, four steals, and four assists.
Widmeyer was very efficient on scoring for UNH with 11 points while shooting 50% from the field and 66.7% from the three-point line. Senior forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) played a beneficial role tallying nine rebounds and four steals in 29 minutes on the court.
Siena was led by graduate student guard Rayshel Brown, who scored 15 points with eight rebounds (6-10 FGs).
The Wildcats only trailed after the first basket of the game (a total of 50 seconds) where they then went on a 9-0 run in the first quarter to make it 9-2. UNH consistently made their lead larger through the next three quarters, putting Siena away for good while outplaying them in field goals, 3-pointers, and defensive rebounds.
The 'Cats advance to 3-2 and have won their second game in a row at home during the early season. Siena falls to an overall record of 0-4.
