Addison Cox and Jill Walker led the way for the 'Cats with 9th and 12 place finishes
BOSTON - The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team placed second among 23 teams with a score of 99 points in the 5k race at the New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park.
The Wildcats were paced by freshmen Addison Cox (Northwood, N.H.) and Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.), who placed ninth and 12th respectively, with times of 17:52.8 and 17:59.1. Graduate student Annemarie Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) was the third finisher on the 'Cats roster with a 16th place finish and a time of 18:10.3.
"Obviously we are happy with our performance, I feel like we improved from where we were two weeks ago at Franklin Park and I am excited about the progression," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "I thought the team competed hard and ran well, needless to say the two freshmen continue to have a terrific opening season as Wildcats. I was also happy with the way our upperclassmen in Annemarie Martell, Kira Nolan, Lauren Dean and Nicole Yeomans ran very well, it was a total team effort."
Senior Kira Nolan (Richmond, Vt.) placed 29th with a time of 18:32.6, while senior Lauren Dean (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) posted a time of 18:39.1 for a 34th place finish for the Wildcats.
Senior Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) took home 42nd place with a mark of 18:44.7.
UNH returns to action on Friday, October 22 at the CCSU Mini Meet. Race time from Stanley Park in New Britain, Conn is 3 p.m.
