DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Lindsay Lee (Eindhoven, Netherlands) scored two goals to lead the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Friday night's 3-1 victory against UMass Lowell at Wicked Blue Field.

Senior Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) gave UNH a 1-0 lead, junior goalie Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) finished with seven saves, and senior captain Isabelle Danahy (Chelmsford, Mass.) was credited with a defensive save.

UMass Lowell goalie Eleonor Boekhorst was credited with three saves, and Valerie Crory scored the River Hawks' goal.

UNH improved to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in America East while UML fell to 5-3, 1-2.

"First of all it was tremendous team effort tonight, I couldn't have asked for more from the entire group," UNH head coach Robin Balducci said. "From top-to-bottom, defensively, sticking to the game plan, our attack was well executed. It was good for us to finish off the game because we've been struggling with that. To finish it 3-1 was really important."

LOOKING AHEAD

The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Oct. 3 (2 p.m.) at 12^th-ranked Harvard University.
UNH's next home game is Friday, Oct. 15 against Monmouth University.

FIRST QUARTER

UMass Lowell recorded a 5-2 shot advantage in the opening 15 minutes but the Wildcats made the most of their opportunities to build a 2-0 lead.
Caron scored her first goal of the season on the first shot of the game at 2:52 to give UNH a 1-0 lead. She corralled a long entry pass and then beat Boekhorst 1v1 for the score.
Lee scored on the next shot of the game – a reverse stick high into the cage – to extend the advantage to 2-0 at 10:00.
Woods denied both Kate Miller and Hannah Keefe in the 12^th minute, and then Sage Valente with 57 seconds on the clock.

SECOND QUARTER

The shots were even (2-2) and the home team had a 2-1 edge in penalty corners in the scoreless second quarter.
Both UML corners produced a shot, but Woods stopped the bid by Berbel Rozema in the 22^nd minute and then Hannah Keefe's shot in the closing seconds was blocked by a UNH defender.

THIRD QUARTER

The River Hawks had a 6-3 shot advantage, but UNH had a 2-1 edge in corners, in the third quarter.
Crory scored on the first shot of the second half to lift UMass Lowell within 2-1 at 32:06.
The Wildcats generated a corner in the 36^th minute, and the shot off the stick of junior Molly McAteer (Annapolis, Md.) was stopped by Boekhorst.
Kate Miller's shot beat Woods in the 42^nd minute, but Danahy was in position to make the defensive save and Berbel Rozema's shot off the rebound went wide.

FOURTH QUARTER

Both the shots (3-3) and corners (2-2) were even in the final frame.
In the 51^st minute, UNH earned a corner and the direct shot by senior captain Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) was turned away by Boekhorst, and then junior Ava Mariani (Easton, Pa.) sent a shot wide off the rebound.
The River Hawks generated a corner in the 54^th minute, but Rozema's shot went wide of the cage.
On UNH's next corner – in the 57^th minute – Lee began the scoring sequence with the insert and finished it with the goal when she redirected in McAteer's shot from the left doorstep at 56:16.
UML generated back-to-back corners in the 57^th minute, but Woods denied Rozema and Maxine van Havere to keep the River Hawks at bay.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

UMass Lowell recorded a 16-10 shot advantage that included 9-6 on goal, and the corners were even at 5-5.
van den Brekel led the 'Cats with three shots (two on goal).
Rozema finished with a game-high six shots (two on goal).

UNH NOTEBOOK

It was Lee's first career multiple-goal game, and the four points also marked a personal best.
Lee leads the team in both assists (three) and points (nine). Her three goals are tied for second.
Lee extended her point streak to five games; she has tallied all nine points during this streak.
McAteer tallied her second assist of the season.
The three goals matches UNH's highest goal output of the season. The 'Cats also scored three goals in overtime losses to both third-ranked Boston College and UC Davis.
