Martinez Scores Career-High 24 Points in 71-65 OT Win at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior forward Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) scored a career-high 24 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to Sunday afternoon's 71-65 overtime win against Binghamton University at Events Center.
Martinez, who played all 45 minutes, scored his game-high 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the floor, including 4 of 6 on 3-pointers, and by making 2 of 3 free throws. He recorded his fifth double-double of the season and 14th career.
Junior forward Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) also recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and junior forward Qon Murphy (Charlotte, N.C.) scored in double digits with 12 points. Redshirt freshman guard Blondeau Tchoukuiengo (Montreal, Quebec) scored seven of his nine points in the five-minute extra session.
Brenton Mills led four Binghamton double-digit scorers with 14 points. Thomas Bruce finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
UNH earned a split of the weekend series at Binghamton to move to 8-7 overall and 7-5 in America East. Binghamton is now 2-13, 2-10.

FIRST HALF
• Binghamton scored the first five points of the game and built a 13-5 lead at 13:24.
• Martinez made back-to-back 3-pointers and Guadarrama also hit a 3-ball for a 9-0 spurt that gave UNH its first lead of the game, 14-13, at 11:28.
• The teams traded baskets to advance the score to 18-17 in favor of the Wildcats at 8:41.
• Guadarrama's three-point play gave the visiting 'Cats a 21-17 lead at 5:50 and Murphy completed a three-point play to extend the advantage to 24-17 at 4:39.
• Binghamton ended the half on a 9-0 run to take a 26-24 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
• The Bearcats stretched the margin to eight points, 34-26, two minutes into the second half.
• A layup by Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) sparked a 6-0 spurt that lifted the Wildcats within 34-32 at 15:22.
• Maultsby's dunk ignited another 6-0 run that tied the score, 41-41, at 11:03.
• Binghamton netted the next seven points to surge out to a 48-41 lead at 6:06, but UNH responded with a 9-0 run capped by Murphy's 3-pointer and layup to go back in front, 50-48, at 3:12.
• Four lead changes advanced the score to 54-53 in favor of UNH with 69 seconds remaining.
• Dan Petcash's three-point play gave the Bearcats a 56-54 lead with 56 seconds left in regulation.
• Following a 30-second UNH timeout, Guadarrama made a layup to tied the score with 40 seconds on the clock.
• Binghamton missed a 3-pointer and then the front end of a 1-and-1 as Guadarama's defensive rebound gave New Hampshire the ball with 14 seconds left.
• The Wildcats committed a turnover with three seconds to give Binghamton one last chance, but Tyler Bertram's 3-point shot was off the mark at the buzzer.
OVERTIME
• Tchoukuiengo's steal and two foul shots gave UNH a 58-56 lead one minute into OT.
• Binghamton immediately tied the score, but the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run the next two minutes to build their largest lead of the game, 66-58, at 1:54.
• That decisive run started with Guadarrama's jumper outside the paint at 2:59, followed by a 3-pointer from Martinez at 2:17 and three-point play by Tchoukuiengo at 1:54.
• With UNH leading by six points, Murphy drew a charge and Tchoukuiengo drained two free throws to extend the advantage to 70-62 with 28 seconds remaining.
• Petcash answered with a 3-ball seven seconds later to quickly lift the Bearcats within five points.
• Guadarrama was fouled and made one free throw to make it 71-65 with 13 seconds left.
• Tchoukuiengo helped seal the win by blocking Bertram's 3-point attempt with eight seconds to play.
UNH NOTEBOOK
• Guadarrama recorded his third double-double of the season and ninth career.
• Tchoukuiengo went 5-for-5 at the foul line and made his only field goal attempt in overtime; he also had two steals and a block in OT.
• Tchoukuiengo finished with team highs in assists (four), steals (two) and blocks (two); the two blocks were a personal best.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• There were 13 lead changes and six ties in the game.
• New Hampshire outscored the Bearcats 15-9 in overtime on the strength of a .667 field goal percentage (4-6), and the 'Cats were 6-for-9 at the foul line in OT. In comparison, Binghamton shot 28.6 percent (2-7) from the floor in the extra session.
• UNH's quintet of Guadarrama, Martinez, Maultsby, Murphy and Tchoukuiengo played the entire five minutes in OT.
• UNH outscored the hosts 32-26 in the paint and 15-2 in fast break points.
• Binghamton had a 44-42 rebounding advantage that included a 15-12 edge on the offensive glass, which produced a 15-7 margin in second-chance points.
• UNH's 16 free throws made tied the second highest total of the season.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
• UNH has a 22-20 lifetime record against Binghamton that includes 19-15 under head coach Bill Herrion.
• The Wildcats have won six of the last eight matchups at Binghamton.
LOOKING AHEAD
