Wildcats Fall to UMass Lowell, 74-69

DURHAM, N.H.– Junior forward Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) led the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team with a team-high 19 points in the 74-69 loss to UMass Lowell on Friday afternoon in America East play at Lundholm Gymnasium.
Martinez finished the game with 7-for-13 shooting and 5-of-8 from the three-point arc to go along with five rebounds.
Junior forward Qon Murphy (Charlotte, N.C.) amassed 16 points in the game on 5-of-8 shooting and six rebounds for the Wildcats. Freshman guard Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) also added 13 points for UNH in the losing effort.
Junior forward Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) added 12 points and seven rebounds on 5-of-9 from the field.
Connor Withers notched a team-high 19 points for the River Hawks in the victory, making 4-of-6 shots from three in the contest. Bryce Daley chipped in with a career-high 18 points for UMass Lowell on 7-of-14 shooting.
UNH falls to 8-8 overall and 7-6 in America East play, while the River Hawks improve to 7-8 and 6-5 in AEC action.
FIRST HALF
• The Wildcats went on a 9-0 run in the first half from 17:35 to 15:23.
• UNH held its largest lead of the game with 13:05 left in the half up 12 points on the River Hawks with the score 20-8 in favor of the Wildcats. Nick Guadarrama (7) and Jayden Martinez (5) combined for 12 points during this stretch for UNH.
• Connor Withers' three-pointer with 1:09 to play in the first half gave the River Hawks their first lead of the game, one they would not relinquish.
• UMass Lowell owned a 35-30 lead at the half. Jayden Martinez had a game-high 10 points at the half with two triples for the 'Cats.
SECOND HALF
• UMass Lowell tied the game at 48-48 with 11:09 left on a basket in the paint from Qon Murphy and then tied it up again at 54-54 on a three-pointer from Jayden Martinez.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• UNH shot 46 percent from the field in the first half and 50 percent in the second half. The Wildcats shot 67% (4-12) from three in the second half, after shooting just 29% (4-14) in the first half of play.
• The Wildcats won the turnover battle, 13-10 and the points in the point matchup, 30-28.
• There were seven ties and three lead changes in the game.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
• UNH has a 9-6 lifetime record against UMass Lowell, all which have come with Head Coach Bill Herrion at the helm of the program.
• UMass Lowell has won five of the last six meetings vs. the Wildcats.
LOOKING AHEAD
- UNH returns to action tomorrow (February 6) against UMass Lowell in the series finale. Game time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 1 p.m. on ESPN3.
