HOW IT HAPPENED
At 1:24 in the first period, Mike Hardman netted a goal to give BC an early 1-0 lead. Matt Boldy gave the puck to Alex Newhook, who skated behind the net and gave a backhanded pass into the slot for Hardman to knock the puck past junior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.).
Logan Hutsko increased the Eagles' lead to two with a goal scored at 6:45 in the first period. Julius Mattila received a pass from Jack McBain and then sent the puck to Hutsko who was there to touch it into the bottom glove-side.
In the first period, both teams went 0-1 on the power play. The Wildcats took 13 shots and the Eagles had 11.
Just eight seconds into the second period, Crookshank put the Wildcats on the board with a power play goal and made it a 2-1 game. Junior Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) received the puck off the faceoff and gave it to junior Patrick Grasso (Ankeny, Iowa) at center ice, who sent a quick pass to Crookshank and he was able to beat the Eagles' defense to skate across the goal and slip it into the bottom stick-side.
With 9:47 to go in the second period, Fregona tied up the game with a goal to the lower stick-side. Sophomore Will MacKinnon (Plymouth, Mich.) sent the puck in from the point and Sato knocked it down in front of the net. The puck rebounded off of BC goalie Spencer Knight and Fregona was in position to collect it and score.
During the second period, UNH went 1-2 and BC stayed 0-0 on the power play. The Wildcats had 25 shots and the Eagles had six.
Blackburn gave the Wildcats a 3-2 lead at 4:29 in the third period with a goal buried into the lower stick-side. Fregona took a shot that went wide left, but Sato was behind the net to keep possession and send a behind-the-back pass into the slot for Blackburn to rip a shot.
At 14:55 in the third, Aapeli Räsänen scored an equalizer for BC to make the score 3-3. Luke McInnis passed to Jack McBain, who sent the puck into the slot for Räsänen to skate onto and blast a shot.
During the third period, both teams went 0-0 on the power play. The Wildcats had 10 shots and the Eagles had eight.
At 4:38 into the overtime period, the referees called back a UNH goal for goalkeeper interference after video review. The remainder of overtime went scoreless and the final score stood at 3-3.
