Wildcats Sweep Day One Of AE Championships

UNH wins all three events.
WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team won all three events on day one of the America East Championships at WPI. Senior Allison Stefanelli (Loudonville, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving championship, while the Wildcats captured the 800 free and 200 medley relay titles. Sophomore Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany) set a new America East and school record in the 200 free as a member of the 800 free relay team with a lead-off time of 1:47.12. The four-day America East Championships are from Feb. 13-16.

DAY ONE RESULTS
HOW IT HAPPENED:
800 FREE RELAY

The team of Metzler, freshman Audrey Tirrell (Gaithersburg, Md.), junior Paige Hillis (Mississauga, Ontario) and senior Corinne Carbone (Medway, Mass.) won the 800 free relay with a time of 7:18.20. All four earned All-America East accolades for the win. Metzler set the America East and UNH record in the 200 free with a lead-off time of 1:47.12. The previous school record was set by Liza Baykova in 2016 with a time of 1:47.21.
Carbone is now a 10-time America East champion as this is her fourth relay gold medal. She has earned All-America East accolades 12 times. This was the first America East relay championship for Metzler and her third overall title. Tirrell and Hillis earned their first America East gold medals and their first All-America East honors.
ONE-METER DIVING

Stefanelli won her first career one-meter diving championship with a score of 233.55. This is her third career title as she also won the three-meter in 2018 and 2019. She will compete in the three-meter event on Friday. Stefanelli has now earned All-America East accolades four times.
200 MEDLEY RELAY

The 200 medley relay team of junior Melissa Dingle (Brighton, Ontario), freshman Jamy Lum (Honolulu, Hawaii), Metzler and sophomore Cate Wardinski (Burke, Va.) won gold with a time of 1:41.43.
Dingle won her fourth career America East relay gold and her fifth overall championship. She has received All-America East accolades seven times. The win gave Metzler her second career relay championship and her fourth overall title as she secured her fifth All-America East honor. Wardinski and Lum each captured their first America East championships.
