Lester Honored as Conference Player of the Week

BOSTON – Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.), a senior forward on the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team, was named Player of the Week by America East on Monday.
Lester scored a career-high 22 points to lead four Wildcat double-digit scorers in UNH's 81-64 home win against Stony Brook University on Feb. 8. Lester made 8 of 13 field goal attempts, including 3-for-7 from 3-point range, and also made three free throws; his other stats included three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 29:12 off the bench against the Seawolves, who are second in the conference standings.
Lester scored 16 first-half points to propel New Hampshire to a 35-14 halftime lead. He scored five of the team's first seven points to give the 'Cats a 7-0 lead. Midway through the first half, he netted 10 of the points that put UNH in front 15-4. And with seven minutes left in the half, Lester accounted for 15 points in the 22-5 margin. He added one foul shot in the closing seconds, and those 16 points surpassed his previous career high of 15.
Lester's halftime statline was 16 points on 6-9 shooting (3-6 on 3's), two rebounds and an assist in 16:56.
It is the first conference weekly award in Lester's career. He is the second Wildcat to receive Player of the Week recognition this season; Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) was feted Dec. 23, 2019.
New Hampshire returns to action Feb. 12 (7 p.m.) at the University of Vermont.
