Second-Half Surge Falls Short at #23 BU, 2-1

Caron Scores in 52nd Minute as UNH Records 13-2 Second-Half Shot Advantage
BOSTON – Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) scored in the 52nd minute as the University of New Hampshire field hockey team recorded a 13-2 shot advantage in the second half, but 23rd-ranked Boston University withstood the charge to record a 2-1 victory Friday afternoon at New Balance Field.
UNH is 0-3 overall with two losses to nationally-ranked teams. BU improved to 2-1.
Caron has scored all three UNH goals this season.
In her first career start (second appearance), freshman goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) recorded four saves. BU counterpart Caroline Kelly made eight of her 11 saves in the second half.

1st QUARTER
- Boston University had a 2-0 shot advantage – one shot on goal – in the scoreless opening 15 minutes.
- Neither team generated a penalty corner.
2nd QUARTER
- Both teams generated more scoring opportunities in the second quarter with the Terriers holding the slight edge in both shots (6-4) and corners (4-3).
- UNH pressured first with a corner 48 seconds into the quarter, and that produced a shot off the stick of Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia) that was denied by Kelly.
- Jodie Conolly converted a corner into a goal and 1-0 lead at 16:58.
- The Wildcats earned another corner in the 20th minute, and this time Kelly turned away Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands).
- With four minutes left in the first half, a penalty-corner shot by Tia Raspante (Sandwich, Mass.) was stopped by Kelly.
3rd QUARTER
- BU converted another corner into a goal by Liz Ryan for a 2-0 lead at 33:48.
- New Hampshire was awarded a penalty stroke at 35:10, but Kelly preserved the two-goal advantage by denying van den Brekel.
- Kelly made four more saves the rest of the quarter.
- In a two-minute span (39th and 40th minutes), UNH generated five shots – three on target – and three corners.
4th QUARTER
- The Wildcats broke through for a goal in the 52nd minute. Caron initiated the scoring sequence as the insert on a penalty corner. The initial shot by Kayla Sliz (Ajax, Ontario) was blocked but Isabelle Danahy (Chelmsford, Mass.) tipped the ball to Caron, who scored at 51:44.
- In the final 8 minutes, 16 seconds, BU limited the 'Cats to one corner and no shots.
- New Hampshire stymied the Terriers' attack in the final frame – the home team did not record a shot or corner.
