Sliz's Heroics Lifts 'Cats Past Dartmouth, 4-3, in 2OT

Sliz Scored Game-Tying Goal in 58th Minute and Game-Winning Goal in Double OT
HANOVER, N.H. – Kayla Sliz (Ajax, Ontario) tied the game in regulation and then scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to lift the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Friday evening's 4-3 victory against Dartmouth College at Chase Field.
The two goals marked a career high for Sliz, who also had an assist for a personal best of five points. Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.), the reigning America East co-Offensive Player of the Week, tallied a goal and career-high two assists. Caron has 10 points (4g, 2a) the past two games.
UNH goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) made three saves, none of which came in the 12 minutes of overtime play. DC counterpart Isabella Santucci stopped 11 shots, including three in the first OT session.
UNH won its fourth consecutive game to improve to 4-3 overall. Dartmouth moves to 1-4.

1st QUARTER
- Dartmouth quickly took a 1-0 lead when Katie Persin scored off a rebound on a penalty corner at 1:16.
- The Big Green's Carmen Braceras scored with 1:27 remaining in the opening quarter to extend the home team's advantage to two goals.
2nd QUARTER
- New Hampshire recorded a 7-0 shot advantage in the second frame.
- Caron's initial shot was stopped by Santucci, but Emily Eckels (Arnold, Md.) deposited the rebound into the cage for her first career goal, which lifted the Wildcats within 2-1 at 17:54.
3rd QUARTER
- The 'Cats clawed back to tie the score, 2-2, at 33:06 when Caron initiated the penalty corner with the insert and finished it off a feed from Sliz.
- The teams combined for just three shots – one on goal – the last 11:54 of the quarter.
4th QUARTER
- Dartmouth regained the lead, 3-2, when Braceras converted a penalty stroke into a goal at 52:45.
- UNH dominated the remainder of regulation with a 5-0 shot advantage and 4-0 edge in corners.
- The Wildcats leveled the score, 3-3, on a corner at 57:14. The battery combination of Caron and Bailey Fanikos (Lynnfield, Mass.) set up Sliz's direct shot that went into the cage.
- New Hampshire generated another corner with 68 seconds to play. Fankios' initial shot from the top of the circle was denied by Santucci, and the follow-up off the stick of Conner Allen (Centreville, Md.) from mid-circle was blocked by a DC defender.
- The 'Cats earned another corner with 27 seconds on the clock, and Sliz's rolling shot from the top-left side went past everyone and ricocheted off the far post.
1st OVERTIME (10 minutes)
- UNH recorded a 5-1 shot advantage in the scoreless first extra session, which saw a pair of defensive saves by the home squad.
- On a penalty corner in the 65th minute, Caron received a return pass low on the left side. She jammed a shot past Santucci, but Maddie Donahue was positioned on the goal line and cleared the ball off the goal line to extend the game.
- In the 67th minute, Ava Mariani (Easton, Pa.) was denied first by Santucci and then by Cecilia Monnin on the rebound.
2nd OVERTIME
- New Hampshire capitalized on the second of two successive penalty corners to end the game at 72:00. Caron inserted a pass to the top of the circle for Sliz, who blasted a rising shot into the cage.
