Wenczkowski makes a Hockey East All-Star roster for the first time in her career.
PROVIDENCE, R. I. - University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey forward Taylor Wenczkowski(Rochester, N.H.) has been named a 2018-19 Hockey East Third Team All-Star, her first career post-season honor, the conference announced Friday evening at its year-end awards banquet.
A consistent scorer for UNH this season, Wenczkowski led the Wildcats with 20 goals and 26 points. Wenczkowsk, a redshirt junior, is the first Wildcat to surpass 20 goals in a season since Jonna Curtis in the 2016-17 season; Curtis and Amy Schlagel were the last two Wildcats to be named to a Hockey East All-Star team, as both were a part of the 2016-17 First Team.
"Taylor had a break out year for us." says head coach Hilary Witt, "It's hard to score in our league and she scored so many huge goals. I couldn't be more proud of and happy for her".
Wenczkowski recorded her first career hat trick in a 3-3 tie with #7 Boston U. this past February. She was one of four Wildcats this season whom had a four-game points streak; of those point streaks, Wenczkowski's was the highest-scoring, tallying seven points in four games from November 25th to December 4th.
During a nine-game unbeaten streak, UNH's longest unbeaten streak since the 2007-08 season, Wenczkowski led the Wildcats with seven goals and four assists, averaging 1.2 points per game in that stretch. Wenczkowski also led the team this season in multi-point games with eight, and multi-goal games with four.
Wenczkowski was named the Hockey East Player of the Week twice this season; on January 7th, Wenczkowski was given the weekly honor after a two-goal third period in which she lifted the Wildcats over the #10 Boston College Eagles, overcoming a goal deficit to win 3-2 at the Whittemore Center. On February 4th, Wenczkowski was once again honored by the league for her four-point weekend in a two-game home sweep of Maine.
This comes after the league honored senior captain Marie-Jo Pelletier(Dalhousie, New Brunswick) with the Sportsmanship Award this past Wednesday. Pelletier and Wenczkowski both received their awards at Friday night's banquet.
