Reed, Watkins Go Out Winners, 60-53, on Senior Night vs. Maine

Carbone Hits Career-High Four 3-pointers as Part of Personal-Best 14 Points
DURHAM, N.H. – The senior tandem of Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas; 13 points) and David Watkins (Dorchester, Mass.; eight rebounds) helped lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to Tuesday night's 60-53 win against the University of Maine at Lundholm Gym.
Reed, in his final game as a Wildcat, went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the last two minutes to help secure the victory. He also made three 3-pointers and had five rebounds in playing all 40 minutes.
Watkins pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and also scored six points in 28 minutes.
Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored a career- and game-high 14 points in 30 minutes off the bench; he made 4 of 9 shots from 3-point range. Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) also finished in double digits with 11 points. Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) tallied nine points and matched his personal best of six assists.
Maine was led by Sergio El Darwich (12 points) and Ilija Stojiljkovic (10 points, seven rebounds).
UNH won two of its last three games to end the season at 5-24 overall and 3-13 in America East. Maine is 5-26, 3-13. The Black Bears won the tiebreaker for the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament.

FIRST HALF
- Maine scored the first five points of the game, but Reed got the Wildcats into the scoring column with a 3-pionter at 17:33.
- Reed kept the 3-pointers coming with another at 14:40, followed by two Martinez free throws to bring the Wildcats within 10-8 of the Black Bears with 12:33 left in the half.
- UNH got its first lead of the game, 13-12, on a 3-pointer from Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) with just under 9 minutes remaining.
- Maine took the lead again, but UNH kept the margin slim and a final 3-pointer of the half from Carbone with just three seconds left lifted the 'Cats within 22-19..
- The half ends with Maine leading UNH 22-19.
SECOND HALF
- Watkins got the Wildcats started in the second half with his first score of the game, a layup with 19:02 left in game play that advanced the score to 24-21.
- The 3-pointers kept coming from UNH as both Guadarrama and Carbone connected from long range to forge the first tie of the game, 27-27, at 16:58.
- Martinez regained the lead yet again for the Wildcats with a 3-pointer with 14:22 left to bring the score to 34-33.
- Maine went on a 12-2 run to build its largest led of the game, 45-36, with 8:12 on the clock.
- The Wildcats kept attacking with more 3's from Reed, Guadarrama and Carbone to knot the score at 45-45 with five minutes left.
- UNH regained the lead yet again, 47-45, on two successful free throws by Carbone at 4:27.
- Layups by Watkins and Maultsby extended New Hampshire's run to 15 consecutive points and the advantage to 51-45 at 3:05.
- Leading 53-50 with 1:10 remaining, UNH called a timeout. Maine stole the inbounds pass, but Carbone got the ball back for the 'Cats with 62 seconds to play.
- At the other end of the court, Maultsby tracked down the rebound on his missed layup, and Carbone drilled his fourth 3-ball of the night to push UNH's lead to 56-50 with 31 seconds on the clock.
- Following a missed 3-pointer by the Black Bears, Maultsby hit a pair of foul shots to advance the score to 58-50 with 12 seconds remaining.
- El Darwich hit a long 3-pointer four seconds later, but Reed made both free throws to close out the scoring at 60-53.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 74-108 lifetime record against Maine. The Wildcats have won each of the last five matchups at Lundholm Gym.
- The home team has won five straight meetings.

- Carbone's 14 points and four 3-pointers were both career highs.
- This marked the fourth time this season and sixth time in his career that Reed played all 40 minutes.
- Prior to the game, UNH honored its two-member Class of 2019: Reed and Watkins. The Wildcats also recognized team managers Braeden Estes, Mike Stefanelli and Ben Couture, all of whom are seniors.
- Reed played 88 games with 73 starts in three years as a Wildcat; he started each of the last 25 games of his career. He tallied 673 points, 146 3-pointers, 211 rebounds and 146 assists in 2,562 minutes.
- Reed's 146 3-pointers ranks No. 9 on UNH's career leaderboard. His 446 3-point attempts is also No. 9.
- Watkins played 96 career games with 23 starts, including 18 as a senior. His stats included 376 points, 60 3-pointers, 261 rebounds and 36 assists in 1,214 minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- There were three ties and five lead changes.
- The Wildcats outscored Maine 41-31 in the second half on the strength of a .545 field goal percentage (12-22) that included 58.3 percent (7-12) on 3-pointers.
- In comparison, UNH scored 19 first-half points on a .231 field goal percentage that included 4 of 21 on 3's (19.0%). The 'Cats attempted just five two-point field goals in the first half.
- UNH finished with a 35-33 rebounding advantage. The Wildcats also had the edge in points off turnovers (16-11) and second-chance points (9-4).
