Wildcats Continue Championship Season, Taking on ECAC/IC4As at BU

The Wildcats are coming off their highest America East finish in xx years.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team returns to Boston University this weekend for one more championship season meet, the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships, this Saturday and Sunday, March 2 and 3.
The Wildcats will be led once again by thrower Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.), fresh off winning the Most Outstanding Field Perofmer at the America East Indoor Championships, and William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.) who took gold three times at last weekend's indoor championship. Astle took the shot put title for the second year in a row, while Ulrich won his first individual gold in the mile, along with two relay victories.
Other key America East scorers are back for New Hampshire, as sophomore Jordan Buckmire (Nashua, N.H.), who just broke the school record in the triple jump, will be back again to compete in the triple.
The Wildcats will send a whole crew of runners down to the BU Track and Tennis Center, including Samuel Lanternier (Derry, N.H.), Aidan Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.), Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.), Thomas Harter (Hampton, N.H.), and Chris Pinkham (Concord, N.H.).

UNH finished third at this years America East Indoor Championships, their highest team finish since 2015.
The weekend started out with a distance-medley relay victory, as both the men's and women's team swept the event for the first time since 2016. The team, comprising of Aidan Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.), Thomas Harter (Hampton, N.H.), Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.), and William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.), took first place, with a time of 9 minutes, 49.98 seconds, almost a full five seconds ahead of second place UMass Lowell.
Junior thrower Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.), defending his indoor shot put title from last year with a throw of 53 feet, five inches. Astle won the event last year with a throw of 55'3.5". For his performance in the shot put, as well as an all-conference finish in the weight throw on Friday, Astle was named Most Outstanding Field Performer.
On the track, senior Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) took gold for the fifth and sixth time at the conference level, and the first time as an individual; he won the 1000 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 25.37 seconds, which was a new personal best in the event. Hoerner was also a part of the first-place distance medley relay team on Friday, and the 4x800 team on Saturday.
A third individual winner for the Wildcats, senior William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.) took first in the mile with a time of 4:09.47. It was also his first individual championship, and his third of the weekend; his other two came as part of a relay team, the distance medley Friday, and the 4x800 Saturday.
Hoerner and Ulrich were joined by Matthew Adams (Concord, N.H.), and Aaron Dobe (Contoocook, N.H.), in the 4x800; the team won the event with a time of 7:36.53.
Elsewhere in the meet, sophomore Jordan Buckmire (Nashua, N.H.) took fourth in the triple jump, with a distance of 49'5.75". Buckmire's jump set a new school record in the event, breaking a record that has stood since 1997, set by Kamau Peterson (49'5").
The Wildcats finished third in the team score with 113 points, with only Ualbany and UMass Lowell ahead of them. UAlbany swept the meet for both men's and women's, with a score of 178.50 in the men's standings, 213 points in the women's.
