KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of New Hampshire women's track & field team competed at the University of Rhode Island coaches tribute meet, looking to get one final chance at high-level competition before facing off with the conference's best at the America East championships later this month.
In a meet where no team score was kept, the Wildcats goal for the weekend was competing for individual career bests and bettering their own marks. Two Wildcats won their individual events on Saturday, with freshman Zakiya Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) taking first in the 400 meter run with a time of 1 minute, 1.12 seconds. She was followed by fellow freshman Kelly Hamlin (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) in second place in 1:02.37, just milliseconds away from her personal best.
In the 1000m run, the top overall finisher was freshman Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) who took first in 3:01.70, setting a new personal best in the event. Finishing runner up to her was junior Madeleine Brandon (Killingworth, Conn.) who finished in 3:02.18, also setting a new personal best.
