DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's track & field team, coming off a strong performance at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University, return to BU for the 2019 America East Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23.
The Wildcats will be led by upperclassmen Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) and Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.), both top seeds in their events and experienced runners in conference championship meets. Gajewski is a five-time America East individual champion in both indoor and outdoor relays, Murdock is a four-time champion.
Gajewski and Murdock will compete individually and also as a part of the distance-medley relay team, along with lead-off runner, sophomore Cayla Barretto (Woburn, Mass.), and senior Emileigh Glode (Boxborough, Mass.). Glode and Barretto both won America East gold at last year's indoor championship in the distance medley relay.
Senior Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.) comes into the 400 meter run as the fourth seed, looking for a scoring spot for her second straight year in indoor. Junior Meg Champagne (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) coming off a personal best in the 3000m at the Valentine invitational, will go again in the 3K and the 5K.
In the field events, senior Sabrina Anderson (Hopewell, N.J.) will build off her championship experience as she is seeded third in the pole vault going into the weekend. Freshman jumper Saige TuDisco (Haverhill, Mass.), coming off a stellar start to her collegiate track and field career, will debut in the pentathlon.
MEET INFO:
DATE: February 22-23
START TIME: 10 AM (Both Days)
LOCATION: BU Track and Tennis Center – Boston, Mass.
FROM THE COACH:
"The focus on this year's team are the upperclassmen, Gajewski is a fifth year senior, Murdock is a senior, Hackett is a senior, and Sabrina is a senior. We certainly feel like that's where the strength of our team is, and we really want to see them do well. They've been apart of some really great teams, now they get a chance to shine individually."
